How do I crop a 3GB mpeg2 file

I've recently installed a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR250 card to enable me to convert my VHS library to DVD. Done the first one and ended up with a 3+GB mpeg2 file but I need to crop a few minutes off the end. I've tried TMPGEnc and nanoMPEG Editor but can't get it to work. The video is 106 minutes and both these will crop but seem to "loose" most of it. Can anyone advise a method / best software for this. The PVR250 uses a hardware encoder - the resulting mpeg is fine and I'm happy with the quality, just need a method to crop the files.

You could demultiplex the audio and video, and then use bbmpeg to remultiplex and split (at whatever size you wanted to cut it off at)

This would be somewhat inexact, but it would do what you want...

If Maestro accepts the m2v stream u can cut anything u want there by means of the moving edges and export (right click on video, choose export mpeg video) from there.

Alternately u can use M2-Edit Cut Pro or Vitec Mpeg2Pro

I'm not sure if you wanted to cut the sound also, and I'm not sure what Maestro does in the way of this.

Here are two other options:

1) put a chapter mark near the end when authoring that ends the movie and goes on to whatever you want it to, for instance, make it go the the menu after the chapter ends. You can find it under connections for that chapter.

2) Frame-serve the entire clip to Premiere, import the audio, then re-export the entire movie after clipping, with a seperate audio file, then re-author.

I would go for the first option if it's just a few seconds or couple minutes off the end, unless that couple hundred MB is a huge deal.

womble will also work .. if you want sound you will need to re-mux the sound with the file first ... i pefer womble because of the gop fixer ... but tempeg should also do the same.
