Hello everybody,

I wondered what has been going on lately on the stable side and I downloaded the latest stable binary from uManiac's site. Guess what: all the advanced options (that formerly belonged to only dev. builds) such as cm, gmc, qpel, vhq, b-frames are already included in the stable build and they are fully functional if I am (or something else on uManiac's site is) not wrong, which somehow made me think that we are not that far from XviD 1.0 ;).

Also, as expected, it also accepts YV12 input frameserving with AviSynth 2.5.

Just wanted to share it...

regards,
iago

Dev-api-3 is not officially stable before it is announced as such. Keep on using your old build if the word 'stable' is of importance to you. :)

The merge of the new api into the stable-branch is only in preparation for the coming '1.0.0' release, but the auto-build-system updated uManiac's build, automatically.

I have three categories of stability XviD

a) rock stable
b) stable (for me, personally)
c) total (or partial) unstable

Mmmmmmmmmmm.......I just finished enconding "CAST AWAY" and i have to made it 3 times, because QPEL and CHROMA MOTION makes a nasty efect in dark parts (specially in water parts at night), like lines draggin part of the sky or water.
First attempt: QP=ON CM=OFF.......draggin effect
Second attempt: QP=OFF CM=ON......draggin effect
Third attempt: QP=OFF CM=OFF......perfect!!!
in all the cases, BF=3/100/200, VHQ=0,all the other settings by default....

So, if this is "stable".......mmmmmm
sorry, i don´t mean to be sceptic, but.....for now, the only 2 things that works good "for me" are, BF and GMC.
The script was really simple, no filters, only Lanczosresize (640x272)

Alx.

PS, my english is terrible, i hope word "draggin" exist.......for a better explanation, imagine fresh paint falling from a wall, like "tears".

could be even stable but the sse2 optimization is buggy.
On a p4 you must uncheck "automatic detect optimization".
an i get a vdub(1.5.0) crash on a 2 pass encoding (saying something about ntdll) :sly:

get back with koepi build 02/02/03 ;)

@alx
Cast Away is a very noisy DVD, try to use some filtering. I found that xvid doesn't handle unfiltered DVD's with a lot of noise very well.
I encoded this one myself and the results were only good, when a nice amount of filtering was used.

Sounds like the smearing effect. Are you decoding by ffdshow? If so, under ffdshow's "Codecs" page, *uncheck* XviD, and check "Raw". That way, video is safely decoded by XviD itself (with much less smearing, though still not 100% perfect in all cases), and you still have ffdshow for postprocessing available.

I just installed the latest "stable" uManiac build (24.2.2003 11:00) and wonder why all the new features are gone? ... GMC, QPel, VHQ ... even B-Frames are disabled ...

That's because as of this morning, the stable builds are stable again. Non of the buggy features are enabled, and will only be enabled when they have been marked as 'release'.
