Perhaps it's a stupid question and i'm sorry if it is but if anyone could tell me a program to use to convert .VOBs into .avi or a format editable with Adobe Premier i would be very grateful, thanks.

Welcome to the forum. No, it's not a stupid question. It is only an ignorant question. That's because AVI is a container for audio and video, and the guides here are either organized by codec, or by final disc format. Unless you knew that much, you wouldn't know where to turn.
On the top-level page in the guides (http://www.doom9.org/guides.htm), you'll find a set of guides in the DVD Backup section, called DivX / XviD (http://www.doom9.org/divx-encoding.htm). That's the section for creating AVI files.
Note: I don't know Adobe Premier. But if it will accept an MPEG-2 stream, extract that from the .vob to avoid an extra encoding step. I think you can use bbMPEG or TMPGEnc to extract the .m2v stream from a set of .vobs. If you must use .avi, then I recommend using the DivX 5 (http://www.doom9.org/gknot-main3.htm) guide, which will point you to the two downloads to install the Gordian Knot encoding suite, and gives you step by step instructions for using it.
It is designed to produce AVI containers with DivX video and either MP3 or Dolby Digital soundtracks, and to produce results at a specific file size. Even if that is not your intent, I recommend going through the process with the guide in hand the first few times you use it.
You can also use one of the tools in the encoding suite, DVD2AVI, all by itself, if you have unencrypted .vob files on hard disk that contain a single angle of a single program chain. If you want the process of conversion to AVI to be without noticable loss, then use a lossless codec such as HuffYUV, or MJPEG at high quality. You'll need a lot of disk space, though.
I hope this helped!

If I was informed correctly, latest Premier 6.5 imports m2v streams. In the later version 6.0 u can frameservr the vob by means of dvd2avi and vfapi plugin.
DVD2Avi extracts the video as a d2v project that is fed to the vfapi endocer to produce a pseudoavi that premier accepts.
Search the relative forum for information and report back if u have any questions.
