View Full Version : Help needed:Video size about 150MB Under Desired size!

I did a 2 pass encoding with XviD-02022003-1 _ALPHA_ Release by koepi.
I used the iago Xvid Guide and used exactly the same settings.
My source file was american Pie.avi @ 768x576 frameserved with avisynth,
croped and resized crop(0,76,768,429) BicubicResize(544,304,0.333,0.333)
I wanted to get this on 1 CD and the desired size for video (without audio) was
set to : 622904 (1hour31min)
After the job was done I had:
1st pass file=446 MB (467,722,240 bytes) 83kbps
2nd pass file=442 MB (464,408,576 bytes) 82kbps!
I am wondering why the size was reduced so much as I could benefit from the
about 150MB to preserve more quality and still fit on 1 Cd!
Could someone tell me were did i go wrong?
As said I used the guide but for more info here are the exact settings:

You use 3 bframes with offset 200 and wonder if your final file is undersized?
That's normal! Suggestion: You should leave quantizer to 2 and 31

Ok so you say I should not use B-frames or should i reduce them?
I just folowed the guide after all!
Anoth strnge problem is that the 2nd pass avi file has a seeking problem!
When (mostly at the end of the movie) I try to go forward or backward and seek
the frame freezes for 5 to 10 seconds and then starts playing!! but there is no such prob in the 1st pass avi nor with the source!
Anyway I want to finish this encoding! Could you tell me what I should change to get the desired size and also tell me if I should redo a 2 pass encode again or it can be done by using the first pass stat file and just do a second pass fix?

update your xvid build

Well, as has been said before many times, undersized files are no problem. It certainly isn't the fault of xvid. Here is what you might try doing to increase the filesize. Increase the resolution maybe to like 640 by x, then you should be able to hit your target filesize. And don't complain just because you followed iago's guide and it didn't work. Don't get me wrong, his guide is great. But, every movie is different as I am sure you are now aware. Also, if I remember correctly his guide doesn't cover everything just how to set up xvid other things such as the resolution are very important as well but aren't covered, IIRC.

the xvid syndrome : my video is beautiful but undersized, help me doctor :D (well would you prefer: "my video is blocky with divx" or "my video is too smooth with rv9" :D :D :D )
for this movie a full 2pass encode isn't necessary. a 1pass fix quantizer2 will produce the same file (each time the biggest one) but needs less time ;)
keep the 02022003 koepi's build (new one are buggy with bframe), increase the resolution (use lanczosresize ^^) and mpeg instead h.263
if it's undersized again, use this: bframes: 3/100/0 :sly:

sigmatador,
i'm amazed how you can throw out false information like this with a smile on your face.
THIS SUCKS!
02022003-1 has the same "bug" with bframes as the build now. We just reverted the direction of it.
Next time, please don't spread misinformation but read up and understand things first before writing it to the public and irritate users.

calm down
i know this (ok my post is not clear), but for me the last bugfix is worst than the original bug..., so i prefer use the 02 build for my encode, and the 15 one to test. (really, today and yesterday test, there's more artefacts and more visible)
with my english i prefer writing the essential (may i have wrong by prefering 02 than 15 for my dvdrip storage ?? say me...)
misinformation is a bit hard... i said that bframes are buggy with new build, and it's not false (just forgot to write my point a view about 02 and 15 builds)
... well... delete my post
ps: would you prefer "misinformation" with a smile or with a sad face ;)

I use b-frames, q-pel. No WHQ (actually).
In b-frames are disordered blocks, mainly at high-speed, contrasted edges...
Koepi's build 02022003 is O.K., 14022003 and 15022003 are buggy.
I think, syskin's hotfix for darkblocks in b-frames is buggy possibly (see snap from xvid movie)...
be careful harry, koepi's going to blame you :D , well i'm not the only guy... so i'm not totally stupid (what a good news for me, i was afraid about that :D :D )
ps: i'm just kidding koepi, can you smile too ? ;)

UNDERSIZE is not a problem! (U just used more features than u should)
OVERSIZE is!
U'r movie compresses well, try without b-frames, user higher resolution, blablabla....
Take care
