subtitles question

so... i extrated some subtitles with SubRip 1.15, and then tried to mux them into an AVI, with SubMux (included with VobSub). I then try to play the AVI, and the subtitles are no where to be seen. I tried installed Morgan Stream Switcher to select subtitles, but that didn't work, either. It recognized them, and said that they were enabled, but I couldn't see them.

I've also tried converting the subtitles produced by SubRip 1.15 to other formats, and renaming those newly converted files to the same thing as the original AVI (without the embedded subtitles), and still... nothing...

so... HOW do I get subtitles to play?

I use DirectVobSub to display mine. It's included in the VobSub package, but isn't installed by default (I don't think). So reinstall VobSub and do a custom install this time, and check the box to install DirectVobSub. Then, I make my subs in the SSA format (SubRip can create them in the SSA format, as well as many others), mostly because they're real easy to edit using the Sub Station Alpha program. When you see this curved green arrow showing up in the SysTray when you start your movie, then you know it's working.

But I keep my subs separate, so that may not be exactly what you're looking for.
