Have several different episodes of shows recorded that I will be putting into DVD compliations. Some have VERY low volume, some RATHER LOUD and some are just right (ghods, sounds like the three bears).

Is there a tool out there that will accept the AC3 tracks and (for want of a better word) transcode and boost/cut at the same time? Perferably that can be set up at as batch (talking over 100 episodes here) to normalize all to (near) the same level? I've seen such a tool for MP3's but thats no good here..

and no, I don't want to convert them to MP2/MPA, I want to leave them as AC3 for the DVD-R's.

I tried AC3 machine and was very unclear about getting it to properly
boost/normalize.. that plus the BeSweet problem of having AC3 come out really low kinda killed that option..

anyone have any other solutions?

changing the dialog-normalization field on all ac3 headers.
i once implemented that feature in BeSplit.

Try using a Program called Cool Edit Pro, it can handle practically any kind of audio file (and normalize it too)

it's not free but you can download i trial version off of Kazzaa or Imesh,

Actually, I think there isn't even an AC3 import plugin for cooledit (whether legal or not).
