I noticed on DVD2one I can select English AC3 2 channel audio and/or english AC3 6 channel audio. IS there any reason at all to select 2 channel audio? If I select only 6 channel I can still hear the movie on any tv right?

Thanks for any help.

You should be able to select any audio track that was originally in the DVD. So if it has an English 2ch/6ch / French etc.. track then you can select the one you want and remove any you don't.

Yes you can listen to a 6ch track through your TV, but it won't sound right. For all the size a 2ch track is you'r better keeping it in.

most likely the 2ch track is a directors comment, so better keep the 6 channels.

Hello :)

All DVD players can convert ("downmix") a 5.1 AC-3 to normal stereo using the regular Left/Right RCA audio jacks. However, some DVD discs offer both a 5.1 AC-3 mix as well as a 2.0 AC-3 Dolby Surround Sound Stereo mix which the studio created and from what I understand this can sometimes be better quality than the "downmix" to 2 channels that the DVD player does on the 5.1 AC-3 track. But these days with DVD discs having both 5.1 AC-3 as well as 5.1 DTS and maybe a commentary track I see less and less DVD discs including a 2.0 AC-3 of the 5.1 AC-3 so I guess the DVD player downmix is probably just as good (or nearly as good) as a studio produced 2.0 AC-3

So in cases where there are identical soundtracks offered in both a 5.1 AC-3 and a 2.0 AC-3 there is no need to keep both. You really only need the 5.1 AC-3 file. Of course, you could get rid of the 5.1 AC-3 and keep the 2.0 AC-3 to save even more space but even if you don't currently have Dolby Digital equipment it is still better to stick with the 5.1 AC-3 since you will have it there when you do get Dolby Digital equipment ... or for someone else you might be making the DVD for or letting borrow etc.

Anyways, I hope that helps explain it to ya :)

P.S.
I just remembered something ... a friend of mine bought a DVD player as soon as they came out and he bought some very early Hong Kong DVD releases and I remember him saying to me that they didn't downmix properly into 2 channel because at the time he did not have a Dolby Digital receiver so my guess is that while the DVD player does the 5.1 to 2.0 downmix for the Left/Right RCA audio jacks it might be the software (the DVD Disc) that tells the player how to do it which would explain what my friend experienced (the DVD didn't have proper info on how to downmix the 5.1 AC-3). Either that or his first DVD player had a problem in the hardware.
