I posted a similar thread 2 or 3 weeks again but nobody has not given me a proper answer so far so maybe this time I'll be luckier
Well my problem is when I am trying to reencode the xfiles season 1.
It happens on any DVD of the 6 discs
Each DVD as 4 episodes and are all the vob 1
So I did the usual things (ifoupdate, reencode with CCe, scenarist and ifoupdate again)
once reencoding with is over, I play the m2v files with windows media player and it plays fine. Quality is very good.
Then I burnt the DVD and even if the DVD plays fine in terms of accessing the menus, etc.., the video of each episode is jerky, choppy, shaky (call it whatever you want)
It looks like to me it is jerky when the camera moves.
During simple scene such as dialog that's ok but as soon as a character moves the video shakes
I first tried CCE in multipass VBR with an average bitrate of 2800 then I thought maybe it was too low so I increased it to 3185 which is my limit. anything about 3185 will cause the file to be bigger than the DVD capacity

Someone told me he had the same problem with a different TV series and that was probably because the video was too long or there were something in the original video that makes it behaves this way
I have reencoded dance with the wolves which is longer or equal to 4 episodes of the X files and I did not have this problem (well I used Rempeg for dance with the wolves)

So please if you read this post and have an idea, let me know
I have all the season on my computer and I need room to backup my VHS tapes :)

No idea what could be causing your problem, but have you tried using DVD2One and the wonderful MakeItEasy?

I've done all the 1st season of the Xfiles, but I re-encoded each episode on it's own then made up my own still menu to access the four on each disk. Video quailty was top notch doing a single pass in CCE (can't remeber the bitrate).

I've been doing my MASH disks using DVD2one/MakeItEasy and I'm finding everything looks okay. I'll be trying season 2 of the Xfiles next so I'll let you know how it goes.

@alanrob
Thanks for that
I was thinking of splitting the DVD in 4 episodes and reauthoring them on my own, creating my own menus
I'll try also DVD2One and makeiteasy
Anyway let me know if you have managed to backup xfiles season 2
