i am new to this dvd burning game i have only burnt one so far lord of the rings (yes i do own it) i recently tried to backup signs followed all the guides the method i am using is

smart ripper
dvd2avi
chapter xtractor
vfapi
cce
subrip
dvdmaestro
info update
nero 5.5.9.1.4.
after using smart ripper in backup mode i followed all the points in the guide dvd9 to dvd9 full copy guide (it wasn't easy the first time but i thought i had the hand of it obviously not)when i burn it to disk the dvd starts fine but after the copyright warning then the touchstone screen it says unable to read disk basically the dvd does not load the setup screen but if i press play again its starts the main movie infoupdate states that there are 2 pgcs in the main info file is this the cause of my probs althought lord of the rings was the same but that works fine if anyone can help i would be very grateful

I didn't see any use of the ifoedit. When bacing up a dvd u have to correct the nav pointers to their new location in the title. U have to use ifoedit and perform a 'Get VTS Sectors' function.

What u have done is that u reencoded the movie, dislocated the pointers and never corrected them. That's why after the initial warnings, that didn't move at all, your player got in a mess cause it didn't find the correct infos where it jumped.

ps. A little remark on your posting. U should not consider it as an insult. U have to respect the people devoting their free time for programs such as ifoupdate and learn to spell and write their name correctly. It is 'ifoupdate', one word, not 'info update'.

thanks for the advice i will try it, one thing though and don't take it as an insult, the english language took years to perfect and you should really take the time to learn to spell the word (backing)properly

I also had the same problem with this film, which I haven't solved yet.

No offense taken. But typographic errors have a tedency to occur.

I have tried it again using a newer version of ifoupdate with the same result. I not that clued up on using ifoedit, I'd best get back to the guides.!!

Oddyseus, when you say ifoedeit is needed to get the vts sectors, is that function in ifoupdate not sufficient for this movie.

Thanks in advance

Get VTS Sectors in ifoupdate has been identified to wrongly correct the needed sectors and only corrected recently. Ofcourse if u r using the latest one this would suffice. But in any case until it will be confirmed so it would be wise to use the widely accepted as the correct one.

i tried the infoedit method instead but the same thing happened i also have the latest infoupdate it seems to hang before the screen when the three people are sat on the chair with the tinfoil around their heads that screen is never fully on even on the original is it some kind of code screen? also i tried the multi pgc method of backing up for maestro because infoupdate states there are 2 pgc ok for multi pgc maestro mode but when i try to update info it says that the original info only contains one pgc by the way i am working with pal movies

thanks for any help

I am assuming u r creating a " backup " dvd and not a vcd. I backed this movie up awhile ago with no problems. at the time i used dvd decrypter, ifoedit, and record now. the second thing i am assuming is u r just interested in the movie no extras. this is what i did:
i ripped the movie (dvd decrypter)
i started ifoedit and chose the vts that had the main movie in it.
then clicked on vob extras. i stripped out all subs and all audio xcept main 6ch english.
so u wanna have the following boxes checked
strip streams- correct vob unit- correct original ifo files- create new ifo files(movie only)
leave expert options as they r.
select a destination souce. next screen is where u choose what audio and subs u keep. i keep bare mininum. then press strip it and wait.

when it is finally done. close ifo edit and then reopen. load up your new ifo files from the destination dir. press get vts vectors.
done. now burn and make sure u have a VIDEO_TS folder with your vobs in it, and a AUDIO_TS folder with nothing in it.

The reason is cos you're not including the second PGC in the first VTS file in your authored DVD.

thanks for the reply this is something i have been stuck on for a while now trouble is i been looking around on how to do it and most of the guides don't give enough information on how to do it i am using dvdmaestro to author my backups i know you have to use multi pgc mode in infoupdate but how do you insert them into dvdmaestro when i save my chapters with infoupdate it lists all the main chapters and maybe 3-5 other playlists do these have to go in the authored vts file

thanks

I'm not sure, perhaps someone else who knows DVD Maestro can help?

I'm using Scenarist..but I'm pretty sure that once you get that second PGC in there, the DVD will play fine. (Even though it is only a second or two long, I wasnt able to work around the fact that it wasnt there by modifying the IFOs with IfoEDIT).

Take care,

This is a well addressed issue of playlists and Maestro.

Search the forum, u will fing what u need.

Maestro is including all the chapters in the video ahead of the playlists, thus creating one more pgc. Ifoupdate in maestro mode gets rid of this 1st pgc.

But you have to search for more info.
