Im having some problems with DivX 5 - Any avi's I d/l, play fine. However, when I create my own DivX version of an mpg file in TMPGEnc, it plays fine in all media players ...

BUT

When I drag the slider bar on x program, it proceeds to the correct audio time, but the video never appears again, and I have to re-open the file to get it to play again.

Another little unrelated problem - when I encode in the new v5.0.3, it tells me it cant open divx.log, and stops (even though I know its there :/)

Help!

For the no video after seeking, sounds like a keyframe problem. When encoding, try setting your encoder to defaults and work from there.

Hi-

sounds like a keyframe problem

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking also. Easy way to find out. Load the movie in Nandub and go File-File Information. Four lines down is "# of keyframes". The figure should be in the hundreds. If it says something really low, there's your problem. Or you might try decoding with ffdshow (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Filters/ffdshow-20021213.exe) and see if that helps.

As for the second problem, I don't really know. First make sure that you really have DivX 5.03 installed by going Video-Compression in VDub and seeing if it's there. If you have DivX4 in there as well, you should probably get rid of it and reinstall DivX 5.03. You might try reinstalling it anyway. And assuming you have a good log file, you could run the second pass directly in VDub. I'm assuming you were doing it through GKnot originally.

Ok, I tried using V-Dub to get the keyframes info, it said 231 for 1 & half our Divx 5.0.2 encoded movie. As for the divx.log prob, im trying that now.

Ok, had a spin at the log problem - Still tells me it couldn't find the log file - It is supposed to be in the root, called divx.log?

As for me using GKnot, no, im just trying to do some simple mpg->DivX conversions using TMPGEnc

Hi-

The logfile should be in with your movie file, unless you told it to get saved somewhere else. I usually name mine by the movie title. Check in the first DivX Codec Tab to see if you told it to create one, or if it's located where it says it is.

By the way-that 231 keyframes is averaging about one every 23 seconds, which means that many are spaced farther apart than that. If I were you, I'd check what it says for Max Keyframe Interval and maybe return it to the default 300 frames. Those widely spaced keyframes could make seeking much longer, but shouldn't destroy it entirely.
