Havng trouble backing up a dvd fully and in those situations I create my own menu, but I would like to know is it possible to use an original motion menu for selection of extras, chapters etc??
Normally I take the menu and create an intro from it and then a still from the menu to make my selections from i.e play movie etc. Can I actually use the motion menu like that, to use as in original dvd??
I dont understand how to prepare the menu in Maestro, I can do stills great and set up the navigation etc is it the same. also how do I set the loop so it repeats itself.
plz let me know if I am unclear, thanks. :)

So! U demuxe the menu to a m2v. No Need to reencode allthough this depends upon the size of the menu.
U insert it like a still in a maestro menu. When u do the middle tab in the menu window will have 3 options. The middle one that says loop should be checked. The slider to the right determines where the loop would start and also the start time for sub selection.
The buttons r set the same way as a still. If u want the menu to play once and exit just check the timeout option and then set the timeout destination in the connections window. Shown in workbook mode that u can select from the dropdown menus of the program.

What resolution do the motion menus have to be? I'd like to have 6-8 motion menus per page. I would think 176*128 but Maestro seems to only want to import 720*480 video streams. I get a invalid video stream if I try to import lower res video.

Menu size must comply with dvd specs, that r 352x240, 352x480 or 720x480. All values r for ntsc. I did menus with the later 2 resolutions and didn?t run into any problem at all.

Maestro will only import a finished menu, it will not construct a motion chapter menu from multiple clips for you, you need to do this in an external program.
for info on how to do this, there is a sticky in the advanced dvd authoring forum started by Arky.
