hi,

this question i've already asked in the player forum - no reply yet.

i'm looking for a good, easy to use dvd player for linux. any advices ?

furthermore and maybe even more important i am looking for a avi/divx player for linux as well. so far i've been using zoom player under windows. what the linux player should be able to do is:
1. ability to handle 2 audio tracks in the divx movie (zoom player is able to switch between 2)
2. this is not a must - show subtitles which i have as seperate subtitle files (gknot)
3. that's not a must as well - handling should be somewhat comparable to zoom player

thanks for your help on this one !

I've found Mplayer (http://www.mplayerhq.hu) to be the best player for linux, it can play pretty much everything imaginable and is nice and easy to use (much like Zoom PLayer).

Another popular player is Xine. but I prefer Mplayer.

Cheers

You can use Mplayer without KDE, Gnome, or Linux installed.

yeah, in fact when building mplayer itīs easy to forget to enable the GUI on the ./configure stage.
for DVD playing I think that ogle DVD player is better, because it fully supports DVDnav lib (for DVD navigation through menu, etc) and getting DVDNAV work with MPlayer is a pain in the a$$. on the other side, with mplayer you can bypass the fkng intro logos etc, because you have to select manyally the title to show. afaik ogle cannot be used on console, but I might be wrong.

Try video lan client, dvd with menus and dual language avis work fine. It does subtitles but i don't know what formats.
