I appreciate that all video is different etc. But I am looking for help coming up with the best method/settings to get an average consistent quality mpeg->divx conversion. I haave searched through the other threads and most replies usual stick to saying it depends on this/that etc.
The source is always pal/25fps @ 720*576 with perfect synced audio/video in mpeg (its a recorded of DTV stream thats been passed through PVAStrumento) I wish to compress to approx 20% of the original size, There are diff settings/methods and I've played with quite a few. I want to be able to automate the whole process so the method that best lends itself to a program calling the other progs req'd to do the job is req'd
my current settings are to bilinear resize to 576*464, use 2 pass 5.02 divx with BDE @ 1086kbps. I compress audio to cbr-96k. Its pretty quick and dirty and though may be imperfect for some encodings I am looking for a 1 size fits all. Final size is unimportant the aim is just to reduce the file size to about 20-25% (about 400mb/hour)
I have achieved this by dvd2avi->avisynth->vdub->avi and by using dvdx (i have previously used GK / flask but don thtink they are suitable for automation). Obiovusly dvdx seems easiest but program seems a bit buggy 2 me.
