I need to convert some MP2 files to AC3 format, yet using BeSweet I end up with a virtually inaudible file.

I'm aware of the quietness issue, but most seem to be reporting around 1/3 or 1/2 the original volume. What I'm getting is rediculous, I turn up the volume to full blast and I can barely hear it.

What on earth is going wrong? Is there any other way of converting to AC3? If there was a commercial program that did it, but didn't cost $$$$ like Soundforge does, I'd consider buying it.

Convert your MP2 to WAV and normalise it to 0db.
Then encode that WAV to AC3 2.0
You shouldn't loose much volume like that, you'll likely end up with a -7db file.

You should consider keeping the MP2 if you're doing DVD. Most DVD players accept MP2 audio (all PAL players do anyway)

If you're doing AVI, better use MP3.
