I am backing up "goodwill hunting" the same way I have backed up many dvd's: dvd decryptor, dvd2avi, vfapi, cce, pulldown, ifoedit to author, ifoupdate, make sure it plays with powerdvd, burn with imgtools high compatability mode. This process has worked many times before. However, this time the dvd won't play in my Apex dvd player, or my Sony dru500a burner, which has never had problems playing dvd's before. Playing the dvd with powerdvd using the sony says "a disc with unsupported format in drive d: (which is the sony drive).

So, I went back to the authoring step, and this time I used Maestro to author the dvd. I imported my pulldown file and my audio file, then hit compile. In the status window, it says "dvd build successfully completed" but it also gives me 4 warnings. The only one that concerns me is "No First Play Assigned". It concerns me because when I try to play the first copy I made in my dvd player, it acts as though there is no navigation pointer telling it where to go.

Please give some suggestions of what could be wrong. Any will be appreciated.

Thanks

You will always get these warnings with Maestro if you provide no menus in your project. I presume you used IFOUpdate after you were done to incorporate the original menus back in?

I guess I just never noticed the "no first play" message before; I usually use ifoedit to author.

Yeah, I did use ifoupdate. Oh, I burned the authored files that Maestro gave me, and they will play on my sony drive, but not in my standalone Apex or my Playstation 2.

Do you think there is less chance of making an error if I just leave the menus out? Out of about 13 dvd's I've backed-up, this is about the second or third one that gives me trouble playing. If I just rip the movie, encode to fit on one disc, then author, do you think that would make my discs more compatable? Please, I'd like to hear people's thoughts on this. When the Apex has trouble playing a disc, it sounds like it is just searching all over the dvd, looking for some kind of navigational pointer or something. It seems like if I just had the movie without any menus, the structure would be simpler and maybe easier to play.

Your thoughts anybody?
