after doing a search in this forum i am still unclear if a program exist that might take a wave file and convert it to 24bit/96khz format.
also a way to rip the music from 24bit/96khz audio....i only see one post on it...but not clear if the files were able to be modified after the rip or just played as they are.
Reason....experimentation and plain old curiousity

There is no sense at all about converting a normal 16 bit 44.1 KHz into a 24 bit 96 KHz PCM WAV. It would only triple the file size with gaining no extra sound quality, as there is no way to 'recover' the sound information that was lost when recording the original signal with a 44.1 KHz sampling rate and a low bit depth ( = low dynamic range = low SNR ).
About conversion of 24 Bit / 96 KHz PCM audio into other formats :
IIRC you can use FLAC to compress 96 KHz sampled audio WAV files losslessly, but despite AAC there is no lossy compressor i know of that could handle 96 KHz as input sampling rate. Frank Klemm promised to implement it into MPC one, but pls. dont expect Frank to spend a single bit even on storing the high frequency information > 20 Khz, its very likely he will apply filters to get rid of it.
In any case i expect a lossy compressed 24/96 to sound worse ( irrespective of the audio codec that is used ) than a FLACed 16/44.1 or 16/48 audio stream, with comparable file sizes.
About downsampling/processing 24/96 PCM tracks :
Both Cooledit and Soundforge should be able to handle that.
