Hi all,

In my quest to remove frozen video frames, (or bypass them), I wish to try using only 5.03 codec, and completely remove 3.11...how do I do this? I can't really seem to find any info in the net about removing it...

(And if you say, 5.03 will play 3.11 content, I've set the registry to use 3.11 codec for 3.11 movies, not sure how to change it back - plus I'd just like to know how to remove 3.11 anyways).

Cheers,
Josh

Hi-

It depends on the OS. In Win XP go Start-Settings-Control Panel-Sounds And Audio Devices-Hardware-Video Codecs-Properties-Properties. Then Highlight the Low-Motion codec and Remove it. Then Highlight the Fast-Motion codec and Remove it.

Cheers, I'll try that...I was referring to both XP and 98. I tried removing both these codecs from the same section by via device manager...but i'm sure they came back upon restarting...I'll give it a go you're way though, perhaps XP knows to remove them this way...

Hi-

I was just fooling around in Device Manager a little while ago, saw them there, and thought you'd be able to remove them from there also. But you're saying it doesn't work? So maybe my way won't work either.

if you're comfortable editing the Windows registry, search for the divx3.dll (that's not the name, but you know what i mean), and delete all references to it. this will keep Windows from using/recognizing it. everytime I would remove a codec via 'Device Manager', it would come back after a reboot. doing it the registry way keeps them off for good.

Maybe your goal is a noble one,
but you may experience unproper divx3.11 decoding using div 5.0X afik.
(maybe they corrected the bug, maybe not)

for just removing frozen frame, use divx3.11 & antifreeze patch available from doom9 or use ffdshow.

nah, I removed 3.11 from the registry, and it's no longer loaded...the freeze frame issue is now gone...I tried AntiFreeze but it didn't work...I just want to be rid of 3.11 currently...if I have improper decoding later, I'll deal with that issue then...

Anyone know the files involved?

From the file "DivX MPEG4 Video Codec.txt"

DivXc32.dll Video Codec Version 4.1.00.3920 (Low-Motion codec)
DivXc32f.dll Video Codec Version 4.1.00.3917 (Fast-Motion codec)
DivX_c32.ax Direct Show Decoder Version 4.1.00.3917 (Hi Quality decoder)
DivXa32.acm Audio Codec Version 4.1.00.3920alpha (Better than MP3 audio)
L3codeca.acm Fraunhofer-IIS MP3 Radium's audio codec Version 1.2.0.63

That should tell you exactly which file to remove...
