Anyone does DV captures in Linux? What kernel version, drives, hw, etc?
What software do you use?
I have Sony DVMC-DA2 and interested in using it for capture in Linux...

Hardware setups may vary.
As far as kernel versions are concerned, use 2.4.19 or newer. It comes with the dv1394 module which works with just about everything. You may have to update the module however due to some bugs that have been fixed recently. Look under known problems (http://www.linux1394.org/dv1394.html).
Software: Kino (http://kino.schirmacher.de/). It can capture and record fairly well. It's editing is very basic.
You can also use cinelerra (http://heroinewarrior.com/cinelerra.php3) for more advanced video editing, but it's capture and record to DV devices only half works. Be careful using this, it is full of bugs (some of them are really dumb ones too). It's a great idea with poor implementation, and it's CVS is a mess. There are some patches for it floating around if you look for them. Hopefully this program will improve over time.
