View Full Version : anyone else having lock-ups with 2.5 beta and WinXP?

It's ironic, but I never had any problems with the 2.5 alpha releases, only since I installed 2.5 public beta, I get lock-ups all the time (WinXP completely freezes!)

I'm pretty sure my system is very stable - it's the one I've been using for quite a while and I have just recently run again Prime 95 torture test without errors for more than 9 hours.

What I can say so far is that it doesn't seem to be related with temporalsoften, Warpsharp, C3D, spatialsoften and Monitorfilter . Also YUY2 or YV12 doesn't make a difference.
The only plugins that are in my autoload-plugins-directory are C3DYV12, Warpsharp, Decomb, Avsmon and MPEGDecoder.

I'll try to figure out more about the problem - I'm just curious if anyone else is experiencing this problem as well.

Well... unfortunately I think it's my computer's fault :(

I just ran Prime Torture Test again and WinXP froze after only four Lucas-Lehmer iterations.

So... I guess it's me who has to do a lot of work now, not the avisynth developers...

Yeah - to some extend AviSynth is now an even harder test for you CPU/memory system than prime95, due to it's big and efficient memory usage. Combine that with XviD, and you have a highly stressed system, where most CPU cycles are used!

I think I fixed the problem (actually it was three small problems in addition to each other)

1. The chipset fan wasn't connected (shouldn't be too bad because I'm using a really good cooler, but who knows...)

2. The mainboard power connector seemed to be a little weak: the 5V line dropped to 4.83V under stress. I fixed this as good as I could and now it's 4.98V under stress again.

3. The RAM was set to 2.8V instead of 2.9V recently (it seemed to be ok, but now I guess it wasn't...)

I started encoding again and I'll let you know if anything happens (I hope not!)

...after three hours of encoding RM9 Video via avisynth 2.5, I think I can now safely say it was my computer's fault and everything's fine again :)

Sorry...
