View Full Version : DVD2One vs TMPGEnc

So if I understand from what I've read, DVD2One is as good as if not better than ReMPEG, and assuming the bugs are worked out over the next few releases, it should be much better. However I use TMPG, does anyone have some feedback on how it compares to TMPG?

I prefer the quality of TMPG over that of ReMPEG, and I'm not worried about the time to transcode. I will get DVD2One if it is (quality wise) in the same ballpark as TMPGEnc.

Any thoughts welcome etc...
Thanks.

I have used TMPGEnc & Rempeg2 for the last three - four months. Rempeg2 for the most part.

DVD2One is the best thing since sliced bread with peanit butter on it!

It's simplicity, repeatability and reliability make me look back on all the long transcoding sessions and experimenting with setting parameters in TMPGEnc with just a short glance over my shoulder.

DVD2One makes it as easy as duplicating an audio CD.

The update will probably be out soon that allows a full 1:1 copy, but you can achieve that now if you putz with IFOEdit a little.

I, for one, will not mourn the passing of Rempeg2 or TMPGEnc. IFOEdit will still have application for those wishing to manipulate IFOs, etc. But DVD2One far outstrips anything else on the block insofar as making a movie only backup.

I've seen several bemoan the "loss of quality" as compared to CCE & others. Frankly I think the vast majority of the "loss" is in the mind of the beholder.

I've used it for movies in excess of three hours and the results are awsome whether on my PC or digital TV and they all play in anything I've tried them in.

The author obviously has a very thorough understanding of the workings and most intimate details of the DVD media structure.

This is not to minimize the works of others that preceded him for they all contributed mightily to this work in one way or another if only as inspiration.

Who knows what the next level of capability will be?

My thoughts.

These four packages.
Picture quality:

1=CCE, 2=TMPGENC, 3=DVD2one, 4=ReMPEG2

Speed:

1=DVD2one, 2=CCE, 3=TMPGENC, 4=ReMPEG2

Ease of use:

1=DVD2one, 2=ReMPEG2, 3= TMPGENC, 4 = CCE

If you are sensitive to quality, use CCE. If you want to make a copy of "RugRats" for your Rugrats -- use DVD2one. If you want to get very good quality at a very fair price, TMPGENC. If you just don't care about anything and want to take a long time to make a poor quality reproduction (but with little thought), use ReMPEG2.
