Hi folks:

I'm a n00bie in DVD related stuff.
I have a situation and any help is greatly appreciated.

I have 2 DVDs of home made video. Its about 2hrs 20 min of video on the first DVD and about 40 mins on the second one.
Each DVD has 2 VTS.

i read the guides and came across re-encoding the video to reduce the size -- Quality is not of ultimate importance to me -- How would I go about merging these 2 DVDs into one ?

Should I have to rename the VOBs - -these 2 DVDs are for the same event - so it will be great to have them play without breaks etc.

Should I re-encode in CCE as 2 separate M2Vs and join them in the DVD authoring program ? How would I even handle multiple titles and multiple discs ??

Am so confused -- please throw me something here and help me :)

Thanks so much .

Hi.. pre-n00b when it comes to dvdr .. but just getting into it. Been looking around on the forums and stuff and came across your question. You said you didn't care about the quality.

Have you looked at DVD2ONE? I think its a very simple tool that will take the MOVIE only and do what they called a TRANSCODE to a smaller file to fit onto a DVDR. I think it requires you to grab all the vob files and stuff off the dvd and then it works out what it needs to do. If that is the case, you might be able to rename/renumber the files from the second disk and stick it all together and get dvd2one to do its magic.

I think its even got its own forum. You should head over and check it out .. might be what you are looking for.

Hi - thanks for the response.

I did a lot of searching and experimenting over the weekend and kinda achieved what I wanted ( thanks to the Guides here and the numerous posts ).

This is what I did ( to help someone that hits this post by "searching" )
* Ripped the VOBs -- as I said I had multiple titles and 2 discs - used smartripper ( backup mode ).
* Converted each VTS vob set into its own mpv and AC3 ( using the Guide - used DVD2AVI, Make AVS script, use CCE to re-encode )
* Used Maestro to compile the DVD -- imported each individual clip in Maestro and created a "Sync Audio Track"
* Created my new chapters and menu manually.
* That's it !!! -- now I have the DVD with only one titleset and all is well.

EDIT: I created a disc image using Maestro and burned the DVD+R using DVD-Decrypter. Did not use Nero after seeing multiple posts with Nero problems.

Thanks for the authors of the various programs and for the Guides/

Awesome job! Welcome to the big leagues. Glad you opted for the Full Backup method using CCE (obviously superior to everything else).

Gee -- thanks.

With all the information that's in doom9 *anything* is possible !!

Aw - just realized that my quality of the re-encode should have been better --- so I am re-re-encoding the whole thing :(

The more you screw up, the more you learn ;)

Ive just backed up a double sided dvd to dvdr using the method phuntyme was mentioning, putting all the main movie vobs together (which entails re-naming the 2nd set of vobs), then adding to this the 1st side's VTS_1.0.ifo file (I found including this file gives ifoedit some place to start). Then in ifoedit select 'create new ifo's' and point it to the 1st vob. Once processed I had a valid titleset of about 6Gb in size, ran this through dvd2one to get to 4.36Gb then burned.
