Hello:
I am converting the dvd to svcd using DVD2SVCD program bundle.
I am using VCDEasy to copy my bin/cue file to cd via CDRDAO.
The following are the different kinds of folde and files in the CD< which from Bin/cue file.
1.Folder : Ext which has a file (Scandata.dat)
2.Folder: Mpeg2 Which has a file(Avseq01.mpg)
3.Folder: segment Which has a file(..)
2.Folder: Svcd Which has a file(Entried.svd, Info.svd, lLot.svd, Psd.svd, Search.dat, tracks.svd)
When i try to edit the file from ""folder 2 (Avseq01.mpg)"" using TMPGEnc 2.57, it not working.
Is it possible to edit ? If so how?
Thank you

What are you trying to do?
Are you trying to copy the mpg back off the burned SVCD?
You need a program to rip the disc. You can't just copy the
mpg file.
I believe ISO Buster can do this.

Question about getting the MPEG off a SVCD. Like you said, the only program I have found that does it correctly is ISOBuster. I have tried WinImage, mounting in Daemon-tools then copying, and a few others but they don't extract the SVCD mpeg correctly. Do you know why?

SVCD uses a different file format. This is why we can fit more video on a disc then data.
If you read a Cue file you will see.
Mode 1
Mode 2
Mode 1 is normal cd writting. Mode 2 writes without error correction.
Part of a SVCD is written as Mode 1 so that it can point to the part that is written as Mode 2.

OK --->
If the cd image is VCD (MPEG1 in .DAT format) then rip the bin/cue files with CDRWIN and use VCDGear to change from bin/cue to mpeg...that should play in any mpeg player w/o any extra codecs (WMP too). VCDGear also works with .dat files to mpeg. www.vcdgear.org
If the cd image is SVCD (MPEG2 in .MPG format) then open the cd directly with Isobuster (you can also open saved bin/cue files), and right click on .mpg file and select "Extract but FILTER only M2F2 MPEG frames". This will properly convert the "image mpg" to a "program mpeg" so you can play on your computer. For this, of course, you'll need a free mpeg2 codec to play with WMP, or you can play w/o a codec on a Software DVD Player. www.isobuster.com | use v0.99.7.4 or below.
No,the AVSEQXX.mpg files or any mpeg file DIRECTLY COPIED FROM A CD IMAGE cannot be played normally with media players for (S)VCD's. You must convert that image mpeg into a program mpeg. That's what VCDGear does for VCD and Isobuster does for SVCD.
Lastly,

My question: is there any means to rip a playable MPEG1/2 stream out of the AVSEQ01.MPG file, so that it can be playable with any program?

Look at the Isobuster procedure above.

Hi all,
I made some testing (SVCD):
AVSEQ01.MPG to Hard Disk copied with MS Explorer
(tested in W98SE and XP_SP1):
File size: 822835KB (i.e. 803.5MB)
TMPEGEnc demux: possible, see later
MPGTX demux: possible only using -X option (take all)
AVSEQ01.MPG to Hard Disk obtained via VCDEasy
(tested in W98SE and XP_SP1)
File size: 813040KB (i.e. 793MB)
TMPGEnc demux: possible, see later
MPGTX demux: possible, normal options.
Notes:
Demuxed files with TMPGEnc for both cases seem to be different
(MD5 comparison pending)
Demuxed files with MPGTX for both cases seem to be equal
(MD5 comparison pending)
There is no warranty that MPGTX demux with -X streams will coincide
with the right obtained ones (VCDEasy then MPGTX).
Questions:
I believe VCDEasy method is ok. It creates a .bin file then the AVSEQ01.MPG. VCDEasy is free, and already there if you use DVD2SVCD. Sometimes I also get the .bin with CDRDAO plus XDuplicator GUI.
With WinISO you get the .bin then what? More over, it is not freeware.
With Isobuster do you get the .mpg directly?
Which faster / better method?
Any coments on this?
Thanks,

Hello:
Iso Buster works just fine for converting the AVSEQ01.MPG from the SVCD CD to MPEG2 file on to your HD.
It is very fast and easy. I think in Iso Buster site has the one step conversition method.
Thanks

This has nothing to do with DVD2SVCD anymore.
This thread is now closed. If you wish to continue please use the SVCD forum.
