Gordian Knot is probably what you want.
Check the guides section of doom9 and the specific doom9 forum.
If it turns out that this is what you need you can download it from doom9 also. (Your one stop GK shop).

Gordian Knot is designed to use divx but you can also use it to build your avs and then just use vdub to encode with whatever codec you like.

Just open your DivX/Xvid in FitCD and select AR: 1:1 (if this doesn't happen automatically). Be sure to use the most recent version of FitCD, because of some bug.

DVX 3 is really very complete. And you can encode in DivX 5.0.2, 5.0.3, and XviD.

This GUI really rocks - looks like it could become GKnot 2 - there are still a few quirks, but overall it works _very_ nicely! Nice, nice, nice. Added it to the MoreAboutAviSynth page.
