i've been trying to preserve the capsule mode for my backup but i can't seem to figure out what the capsules are exactly in the video and how to mimic that in maestro. i though they were subtitles (because the image is stored in a subtitle), but i've tried that. for those who are wondering, capsule mode is an option in the dvd that allows you to hit "enter" on the dvd player whenever a capsule icon appears in the corner, which then pauses the video and gives an english translation of the japanese signs in the movie. so, any advice from someone who has done this before or anything similar?
thanks,
scott.

Ick, finally saw Akira last night and it was pretty bad, especially compared to Read or Die.
That thing is very similar to the Infinifilms crap that's on the Austin Powers Goldmember DVD also.
It's really alot of work, and not worth it, but...
Say you want the capsule to appear after 5 minutes in the movie.
Encode 4min and 59sec of the movie, then say you want the capsule to last for 12 seconds, encode the next twelve seconds, then encode the rest of the movie.
Make 'Play' start the first 4.59 minutes of the movie, then it's end action be a menu, that 12 second long video, where the button is there for you to press. Then, make sure it isn't set to Loop, mak eit's end action the rest of the video.
The only problem with that is that I'm not sure how subtitles would work out, since you can't put subtitles on a menu. No wonder Goldmember had no subs.
Seriousy though, you'd be better with just onscreen subtitles translating the text. I'd leave that kind of stuff to the pro companies.
