i have my favourite videoCD music clip, in order to save space on my hard drive , i'd like to convert it to divX but when i load it to virtual dub i found this error message , "pack synchronization error".
how to fix it, i have also tried flask, it can be loaded with flask but can't convert it.

That's usually an error you get from trying to open an MPEG2 file in VirtualDub. Search the forum for ways to open MPEG2 files and serve them into VirtualDub (hint: Avisynth).

actually the file i load to virtual dub is an mpeg1 file, i convert it from vcd .dat file, when i play it there's some freezing frame so i think it's not virtual dub fault, but the file itself is broken.
What i need to know is how can i convert it to divx, i've tried flask but it can handle it, flask is hang up in the midle the conversion process. is there any tool for unfreezing the frame.
thank you for the reply, thank's...

Since mpeg1 is a pretty forgiving format (error wise), this sounds like a really fubared stream. Unfortunately I don't know about any mpeg repair tool (perhaps you should try asking in the VCD forum about that). Does the stream play beyond the frame? If it does you might try AViSynth with DirectShowSource and some mpeg tool to demux the audio.

You could try demuxing the video & audio with TMPGEnc and then muxing the video & audio back together. and then open the .mpg file

I have the same problem
but when I tried to demux with tmpgenc ( neither demux nor simple ddemux) does work. it stops at about one third of the file.
any Ideas?
