I have spent considerable time reading (THe 5 day rule without posting is a good idea, but can be frustrating when one needs to post, has done homework, but still can not get answers), and have not been able to figure this one out. Please be patient, as I have alot to say here, and hopefully someone with considerable experience and great knowledge can help.

I am trying to copy Willy Wonka (My 2 year old daughters favorite movie (and thus the object of much abuse).

Here is my method.

1. Rip the DVD (DVD Decryptor)
Easy, no need to provide details.

2. Remove exteraneous material (VOB Rator + Ifo Edit).
I am keeping the menu, and some of the warnings (Not beacuse I want to but beacuse it is easier).

The movie has two main title sets (I do not know if the term is correct)
These are

There is no Video_TS.VOB only the IFO and BUP

VTS_01_XX and VTS_02_XX

VTS_01_XX is the main title. It contains the logos, the behind the scenes stuff, the menu, etc.

VTS_02_xx is a photo slide show

The VOB's for title set 1 include the following

VTS_01_0.VOB - Menu, ETC ID's 1-28
After 14 it is the alternate language stuff. I Strip these with IFO Edit. (I select Menu Extras, Strip VOB ID's)

VTS_01_1.VOB ID = 1
Extra Behind the Scenes Stuff, Very Bad, and Unnecesary - I strip this with VOB Extras.

VTS_01_2.VOB ID's 1-7
1 = See above.
2,3 = Xtra behind the Scenes
4 = Copyright protection
5 = Logo
6 = FBI Warning
7 = Movie
1-3 are stripped (VOB Extras in IFO EDIT)

VTS_01_3.VOB ID = 7
7= Movie

VTS_01_4.VOB ID = 8
8 = Movie

VTS_01_5.VOB ID = 8
8 = above
VTS_01_6.VOB ID = 8
8 = above

VTS_01_7.VOB ID's 8-12
8 = Above
9 - 12 Sing along songs

I first Strip the menu stuff, then the unwanted VOB ID's. I Copy title set 2 and the Video_TS files to the specified directory, Close IFO Edit, go to the new directory and open the Video_TS.IFO file and click get VTS sectors. I then play the movie in IFO EDIT.

The Video is now 4.9 GB - TOO BIG

Here is the problem with the next step

3. Removing the unwanted audio streams and the subtitles
I open VTS_01_0.ifo in IFO Edit, click VOB Extras, CLick Strip streams, and remove the unwanted audio (I leave only the english 6 chanel stream and the english subtitles), and strip it. REsult = 4.23 GB (Wahoo)
I copy the additional files to the specified directory, open the Video_TS.IFO(Actually all oft he .IFO's, but after the Video_TS, no further changes are made) click get VTS sectors, and save. CLose IFO EDIT, Reopen, and open Video_TS.IFO click play movie, and wala, after the WB logo I get (approx quote) couldn't find necessary file, further playback not posible.

Help, please let me know further information I can post so I can solve this problem. Anyone copy this DVD with Success?

Right,

I should have deleted the original thread, and reposted to the original forum, sorry I forgot to do that.

On another note. I am a junior member - i.e. neophyte who may inadvertently break rules. Thank goodness there are people like you who appreciate sticking ot the rules without regard for the particular circumstance. Also, if you are paying attention to the rulkes, i have posted this in the wrong forum. As I am learning, I have found out in the last day that this forum too is not adequate for my post. So, please do not forget to point out all of the faults of junior members, as we really need a thrashing.

Since you are such a stickller for rules (which are needed to maintain a non anarchy like environment) i might suggest Best Buy as a place for you to seek employment. You would get to remind people all day about their inability to comprehend at first glance the fine print. :sly:

That out of the way, :D

Any suggestions? This post will be moved by tomorrow if there are any suggesitons however, they will also be moved to the DVD authoring forum.

Thanks

oh wow, you sound as if i'd jumped you, or anything. i didn't mean the slightest offence.
no need to get angry at a small comment which solely has the purpose of reminding you of the forum rules.

No offence taken,

I had noticed a few other threads where you replied about rules. I understand the need, and actually appreciate the reminder. I was just excercising a bit of sarcasm, hope i did not offend you.

Take care

no offence taken either

you know as a non native speaker it is sometimes a bit difficult to see the exact line between sarcasm and actual offence.
this and the fact that i was in a very bad mood might have pushed me to replying a bit harsher than i actually wanted to.

oh and to your actual problem:
did you try to play your movie before the step of getting rid of the extra audio channels? just an idea though!

In answer to your question,

I played the movie before removing the audio. It played fine.
should I go in and remove one stream at a time to determine where the error might be? It would be a bit cumbersome, but it is the only way i can think of to attack the problem.

Also,

I am not satisfied with the quality of ReMPEG reduced files, and would like to keep the video quality of the DVD.

If I can get this problem solved, I plan on posting the all of the exact and gory details here. I have decided to keep a notebook for each of the DVD's I backup, so that I can go back and refer to the details later. The multitude of details, program updates, and approaches is immense.

Thanks,
