View Full Version : How to encode 44.1 kHz mp2 either into 48 kHz mp2 or into AC3 successfully?

Hi!

I decided to put some VCD:s onto DVD and transformed the audio on the VCD:s into 48 kHz mp2 with BeSweet as suggested in the Doom9-guide.

However, when I muxed the mpv with the mp2 with BBMpeg, the audio makes a little "cracking" sound now and then. There is some disturbance in the audio-track. How should I be able to avoid that?

I burned the DVD with Ulead DVD Workshop by using 1) MPEG-audio and then 2) LPCM (the VCD:s were in NTSC). The same problem is audible in both of the DVD-discs.

Should I e.g. go for AC3 in order to avoid such problems and if so, what would be a good choice (the Doom9 guide did not suggest the usage of AC3 for the fact that the freely available encoders don't include the Dolby-libraries). I know the program Soft Encode, but would not want to first transfer the tracks into wav at all. If there some good program that would turn mp2 into 2-channel AC3 successfully and would there be a guide available for the procedure?

Thank you for any info,

converting to WAV doesn't affect the quality AT ALL!

don't ever ever use joint stereo when you encode to MP2

Ok, didn't notice the upgrade-bit.

Thank you again,

The upgrading helped and the sound was ok.

Additional problem occured when making a DVD with SpruceUp though. The last episode I put on the DVD was way of in sync, while the others were quite good (not perfect though). In the end decided to give up the effort of turning VCD:s into a DVD and burned .mpg:s into a data DVD.

Thank you for all the help,

Yes, I know :)

It's just the thing with computers, when you overcome an obstacle, the next one already awaits you...

I decided to invest into a rack-HTPC solely for playback - wonder what difficulties will be waiting me there then :D

Thank you for the help,
