Im a long time TMPG user and was wanting to try something new so I thought I'd give CCE a try, I followed the guide here: http://www.doom9.org/mpg/cce.htm . Seems to work ok except the speed is slow(0.49). I did some messing around and if I dont load the 'fake' avi into VD and just load it into CCE w/o frameserving thru VD the speeds come up to 2.0+. Am I doing something wrong?
Is there a guide out there for a n00b CCE user that gives good speeds and quality???
Thanx

the guide you picked is designed for SVCD (and it's a rather old one as well). For DVD-R you don't have to resize and there's in fact no need for VFAPI. The proper guide can be found here: http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/cce-advanced.htm

okay then.. but in this case you're doing something wrong because you're not going to do any resizing... resizing slows down encoding quite a bit and SVCDs can't have a 720x resolution (native DVD resolution). Yet there's a solution for you as well, and it doesn't rquire as many manual steps as the guide you were looking at before: www.doom9.org/mpg/dvd2svcd.htm . DVD2SVCD is definitely the best DVD -> SVCD program out there.. give it a try.

This might seem rude to do to doom9, but I wrote this tutorial that's really only for someone who doesn't want a program to control every step of creating an SVCD. It need some updating, but it works.

Please don't hang me for writing a tutorial with so many steps, but after you use it just a few times, you'll find it all makes sense and is easy to use. Most of the steps include the initial setup, that isn't used every time you run the programs.
I've reached some fast speeds through CCE with this method because it uses AVISynth (written by GKnot).

I had been using TMPGEnc for a while now and knew pretty much everything except for the 2 Pass VBR option and how it worked, :D [Embarresed] I heard of it before but I had been using Constant Bitrate for so long, well anyway someone told me that CCE is a lot faster AND the 2 Pass VBR is also better then TMPGEnc's, so after reading the entire CCE Manual for version 2.50 [managed to get the software from my friend] I understood pretty much everything and set it accordingly for the best results. Now when I hit the encode button it gives me the following error.
" Couldn't Find appropriate video codec for DIV3"
" vinfo_open()failed:***could not open [Pathname of my file] + the VAF extension.
The system could not find the specified file."
ok so I thought it could be codec problem, so I installed Nimo Codecs Package, rebooted and got the same exact problem. Restarted my project and put in the settings again from sctrach and got the same error.
I was reading some of the guides and many of them had this
"ok now were going to create something that CCE can read or work with"
one of the guides was talking about using AVISynth which I don't know how to use, and the VFAPI Plugin for TMPGEnc...
Someone please explain or guide me to the light.
P.S :- Here are the Specs for the AVI which is already a preripped Widescreen DVD.
640x320, 29.970FPS, I Decompressed the Audio to PCM Uncompressed 24000HZ, 2 Stereo, 16 Bit.
Decompressor :- MSMpeg-4 3688 V3.

I also created a guide that helps use GKnot to write the AVISynth file that'll convert DivX to .avs. (Then you can open the .avs file in CCE.)

I don't really know that much about AVISynth, but I know what works for me.
