I searched various threads, and apparently you convert the sub to SSA, which I did use subadjust after ripping with VOBsub.
But Maestro just complains about the SSA file saying no subtitles found and video asset timecode may not correspond to the subtitle timecode.

I wanted to just use VOBsub and avisynth and just put the subtitles on permanently, it worked for one movie but the same script and method doesn't work on another movie. So I thought ok fine I'll just try to author it in...but i can't get that working either.
i looked at the srt file and the text looks fine, and it has the time codes for each text.

Update,

I tried SubRip this time.
Converted it to a SON file so Maestro can import it.
I get the same error message as before...

Click on the "black-on-gray-written" timecode just above the videostream in the movie window. A popup "set time offset" opens, set the timecode to 00:00:00:00.
Second way (not tried by myself): Enter the timecode (which Maestro shows for the video) into Subrip.
