View Full Version : vinfo_open() failed error on Standalone CCE SP

This problem has been around since v 2.50 and is the reason why I only use the Premiere plug in version, not the standalone version.
Whenever I try to use the standalone version of CCE SP to encode a DV video clip to MPEG2 under Windows 2000, the process terminates with:
vinfo_open() failed *** Could not open the file <M:\comp1.vaf> ***
The system cannot find the file specified.
Now, when I run this program on my Windows XP laptop, it works fine and does not complain about the nonexistence of a file it has yet to create.
The Premiere plugin works fine in Windows 2000, so that's what I use. But it bugs me that the standalone program never worked since v 2.50 and all the way to 2.62 and 2.64.
From what I can tell, the .vaf file gets created on the first pass of a multipass VBR encode session, so it seems bogus for it to be requesting this file to exist before it has been built.
I haven't found any thread on this particular problem. Any ideas as to why it happens with the standalone versions and not with the Premiere plugin versions?

Having a very similar problem.
I had been using TMPGEnc for a while now and knew pretty much everything except for the 2 Pass VBR option and how it worked, [Embarresed] I heard of it before but I had been using Constant Bitrate for so long, well anyway someone told me that CCE is a lot faster AND the 2 Pass VBR is also better then TMPGEnc's, so after reading the entire CCE Manual for version 2.50 [managed to get the software from my friend] I understood pretty much everything and set it accordingly for the best results. Now when I hit the encode button it gives me the following error.
" Couldn't Find appropriate video codec for DIV3"
" vinfo_open()failed:***could not open [Pathname of my file] + the VAF extension.
The system could not find the specified file."
ok so I thought it could be codec problem, so I installed Nimo Codecs Package, rebooted and got the same exact problem. Restarted my project and put in the settings again from sctrach and got the same error.
I was reading some of the guides and many of them had this
"ok now were going to create something that CCE can read or work with"
one of the guides was talking about using AVISynth which I don't know how to use, and the VFAPI Plugin for TMPGEnc...
Someone please explain or guide me to the light.
P.S :- Here are the Specs for the AVI which is already a preripped Widescreen DVD.
640x320, 29.970FPS, I Decompressed the Audio to PCM Uncompressed 24000HZ, 2 Stereo, 16 Bit.
Decompressor :- MSMpeg-4 3688 V3.
Very frustrated.

In your example, I can only imagine what a Pandora's Box you're dealing with because of the unknown original format from the rip.
In my situation, everything is coming off the Sony VX2000/PD150s and is 'dvsd' DV format CODEC. I did find out that if I feed it an uncompressed AVI file, such as an animation I made in Caligari trueSpace, CCE-SP standalone WILL accept it. Hmmm.... even if I compress that file with HuffYUV CODEC it's okay too. It's just the DV footage from my cameras, captured in Adobe Premiere 6.5 (and formerly 6.01) that have this problem.
It's not a show-stopper, since I simply use the Premiere plugin to do all the work now, but it still bugs me that I can't use the standalone where I need it most.

well after a week of research I just found out that my system is not equipped to deal with CCE 2.5, My computer is a 3 year old system, but it runs very smoothly, still it was a major dissappointment, I also cannot install the newest verison of CCE because it requires some SSE and 3d Enhanced hardware WHICH as well I don't have. Major disappointment because I had been trying to get the file to work.
Back to TMPGEnc...

Oh man, I feel for ya! That must be agony!
I can remember when I first started doing this work, on a Pentium III 500mhz and waiting 15 hours for TMPGEnc to render barely-acceptable footage. Life's much better under the Athlon XPs with CCE-SP. Exactly one hour to compress one hour of footage and the output rivals the better rental DVDs I've seen.
Athlons are pretty cheap now. Might be worth getting one. Hardware's cheap. It's the software that liquidates my mutual funds.

Yeaaa it's a K-6..:D
Yeaa these days processors are very cheap to get, right now I'm tryin to find a job to get some money, to encode I usually leave it on from around 11:00PM to until I come from school, usually everyone at my house isn't home by 3:00PM so I usually encode movies in the "safe" zone. :sly:

CCE requires SSE (or 3DNow! Advanced) instruction to operate, which means it requires a P3 or higher, or a Athlon or higher (including Duron).
