Hi...
i've tried to copy DVD-9s onto DVD-5. I've stripped unwanted trailers, audio tracks and so on, reduced the size with tmpgenc 2.58 and the resulting set of files playes fine (from harddisk!) with powerdvd.
I've followed the guides for burning the VIDEO_TS on a DVD-5 with nero and with imgtools.
All DVDs burned with nero (latest available version) won't play in standalones AND powerdvd (from dvd).
frown
Some DVDs (image created with imgtool 0.85) and burned with dvddecrypter won' play in standalones and powerdvd (from dvd).
Some DVDs burned with imgtools 0.99.x and burned with dvddecrypter won' play in standalones and powerdvd (from dvd).
ALL DVDs plays well if the VIDEO_TS folder is burned with ULead DVD Workshop 1.3.
Can somebody explain this behavior?

Gerd Mitländer:( :(

Latest version...as in 5.5.10.0?
I can't stress this enough but Nero 5.5.10.0 has bigger bugs than it's predecesor, 5.5.9.17. But 5.5.9.17 is alot stabler. Deinstall 5.5.10.0 and use 5.5.9.17
When you have achieved that...try using Imgtools 0.95-99 to burn, not to create images, but to burn. Since it used Nero's API, don't have 5.5.10.0 installed. It works for me.:)

I have the same problem, but i think the problem is the media (DVD-R) ....or not??I don't think that the media is the problem. I've used original pioneer 4x dvd-r, verbatim 2x dvd-r, pioneer 2x dvd-rw and verbatim/tdk 1x dvd-rw.
Thanks for your tips,
Gerd

This is what I found out,
I use Nero 5.5.10.0 without any problems.
Media used: Princo 2x DVD-R.
Ok, so far no problems, but I did find out that some DVD Players won't play DVD-R that are written to disc in UDFISO mode.
Example: Philips 701
I wont go into debate wether or not this is a good player (I have a Sony DVP-NS705V) and my player has no problems with it.
However, when I write the movie to disc using UDF-ROM all of a sudden the 701 plays the movie fine (also my Sony).
Maybe you can test this with your settop player using at first a DVDRW (if you settop player supports this).
Hope this helps.

Trilight mentions Nero Problems in his guide..
"It has recently come to my attention that there may be problems with using Nero to burn discs that are to be played on Pioneer standalone players!! They may not play. Unfortunately, I only have Sony and Panasonic players to test with and they play fine on both of those. I'll keep you up to date when I get more facts!"
Now i came across the same error. I burnt the VIDEO and AUDIO TS folders of an authored move through iso mode with nero 5 10 and it worked fine (Yamakawa Player, Sony DVD R media). But on a Philips 3.. something player and on my pc with Cyberlink Powerdvd, it didnt work.
I burnt another movie next, but switched to iso level 1 and removed the iso restrictions in the nero iso settings tab- and strangely, it worked in Powerdvd after that. Havent tested it in the Philips player, but ill get back to that.
Im only using nero, cause Prassi gives me "Job terminated with errors.." when I try to burn the folders. Havent figured out why though, folders arent too big for example. Works fine with Nero.

Hi
(..Some DVDs (image created with imgtool 0.85) and burned with dvddecrypter won' play in standalones and powerdvd (from dvd). )
My problem really is:
When i burn de dvd-r with dvddecripter and play this in any standalone won` play de last chapters and stop the movie. Always happens with the last chapters.
Another Question:
what i should put more attention, the movie time(with the movie is more 2:30 minutes "Lord of the ring example" or the vob files sizes??

I use to use Nero 5590. It worked fine but the disc would only work on my player. So i switched to PrimoDVD to burn my VIDEO_TS folder and now the dvds work on all players i have tested. Its a good tool.

Gotta agree. Ditch Nero & burn with Prassi DVDPrimo

nero 5.5.9.17 + imgtool 0.999 is the best solution to burn @igh compatibility with SA player.
I have to say that I have sometimes strnage behaviour (C13 error) on my Sony DVP 715 SA.
In fact i found that complex First Jump gives errors. I now change all first jump to "ump to title X" and have no more problem.
EDIT : forget to say, these discs works in Pioneer 444 as Sony 315... Was not able to test more SA players, but sure it works on lots of.

The Pioneer 444 is *not* a good benchmark SA player. Specifically, the 444 is not a good reference player. The reason: it plays pretty much anything you throw at it. The 444 is tolerant of out-of-specification DVD's (and X/S/VCD's).
So, back on topic: I agree with all others in this thread that Nero 5.5.10.0 is unreliable in DVD burns (although, in my experience, the 444 plays them just fine). If burns using nero work for you and your SA player - great - but dont it expect them to necessarily work on your neighbours player.
cheers
