View Full Version : No MPEG2 in TMPGenc Plus?

I've just paid for TPMGEnc Plus to work with MPEG2 files. I want to encode a MPEG2 file to MPEG1 (to create a VCD from an SVCD). I used to be able to open MPEG2 files but had to replace my hard drive and now I just get a message saying 'Cannot open file or unsupported'. I thought I should be able to open it?
I've got Media Player 9 installed too. Am I missing some codecs somewhere? Help!

You need the MPEG-2 Plugin for TMPGEnc. You probably had it originally and forgot that you needed it. In any case, it's better to use DVD2AVI method, IMO, and load the d2v (or avs) file.

I have actually got that plugin but it still doesn't work. I've also tried downloading Nimo codec pack but no-go.
Can DVD2AVI open MPEG2 files?

Don't download nimo as it messes up your system if you install it. Some people have had to reinstall windows from scratch because of that (I read this on these forums).
Better to use dvd2avi as was suggested above. Yes, dvd2avi can open all kinds of mpeg2 files.

Thanks. I'll uninstall Nimo. I still can't figure out why I can't open MPEG2's in TMPGEnc or anything else.
I tried the DVD2AVI route and opened the MPV file and encoded it. It worked great but then TMPGEnc couldn't open it to split it into two but TMPGEnc had created it!
Does any other software split MPEG files?

Hi,
I too have the same problem the TMPEG whereby it won't open an SVCD file (I want to convert it to DVD now), but it WILL encode to SVCD!
I have tried what I think is now every codec known to man, and it still refuses to play ball.
I also downloaded an MPEG2 codec, and Windows Media Player can play my SVCDs now (which is nice!), but I don't understand why TMPEG can't see it.
Do I need a different plug-in or is it a re-install windows jobby?!
Thanks in advance - very frustrated! :(
Paul.

running tmpgenc 2.59.47.155, core version 1.92.142, fully licensed plus version.
Loaded the m2v.vfp into my directory, and great, it opens mpeg2 files. Preview runs fine, and recoding with no filters or change of format runs sometimes, but more usually errors as folows as well. Any filter (e.g. clipping) or attempt to recode as mpeg1 (for VCD) produces:
read error occurred at address xxxxxx of module 'm2v.vfp' with 40c933c0
after a few seconds
Source mpeg2 is from pinnacle studio 8.
Am still investigating, but any ideas welcome.
ps
what do the other files do in the lzh file I downloaded? my Japanese is non-existant!

all you have to do is to install windvd or windvr or intervideo dvd xpack (though the last one is crap, destroys the whole system). then mpeg 2 will work everywhere, I have no probs with mpeg2 or dvd files in wmp or in tmpgenc

I have read that you should not have Media Player 9 installed. It will create problems for tmpgenc. Search the BBS at http://www.tmpgenc.net

Couldn't get the m2v.vfp method to work. Always got the read errors.
Then I loaded Cyberlink Power DVD, still didn't work.
At this point, I contacted Pegasys Inc. Turns out that Cyberlink has changed the specification, and so their mepeg-2 decoder no longer works with Tsunami.
However, the following workaround does the trick:
Load TMPGEnc, but do not open the mpeg-2 file.
Open the file with Windows Media Player, run a few frames and then pause it.
Leave WMP open, and then the mpeg-2 file should open in TMPGEnc without problem.
WMP opens the file with DirectX, getting round the "overlay" output method.

It of course took me forever to make lha working and to extract the
file but finally I've got it. Here it is M2V.VFP ZIPPED!
