I'm thinking of trying out hub labels.
I searched for it but didn't find any posts listing where you guys bought them from.
I've been using a sharpie to label my DVD-R's but I'm worried now that its a bad idea to do that.

Heres a link for Hub labels

you will also need software to print them. I use SureThing CD labeler Deluxe 3.1, I used these with good results when I had some Princo disks that stopped playing when I added a regular label. However since I have been using Ritek G3 disks I use Avery CD/DVD labels and have had no problems with either playback or peeling and I have done several dozen disks now.

I got the surething hub labels you mentioned. They look nice on the disc! The only problem is the applicator they gave me is hard to use with them. The labels never get on exactly centered on the disc. They're always off a little bit. I am hoping this doesn't cause problems later on.
I actually had better luck placing them on the disc by hand without using the applicator.

CD Stomper do a great applicator, and also their glossy labels are great.

falco533, I don't think you were listening to the flow of the thread. They are talking about HUB labels, they're about 1-1/2" around. They sit at the inner ring of the DVD. A Stomper applicator won't help.
atreides93, I've found the same thing as you - do it by hand and by eye. I've applied a bunch and have not had a problem with wobble. I think by applying the label at the center, it creates less of a change in the disc balance.

My mistake. I have never seen hub labels or was aware that you could buy them.

surthing makes matted and clear ones. The clear ones cost almost 3 times as much. Which ones would you recommend if cost wasn't a factro?

The idea behind the clear hub label is that if you have something 'under' the label, you can still see it. One of the places where I rent DVDs uses them. They put a barcode on the label, but you can still most of the silk-screened label.
For DVD-R's, the clear doesn't make too much sense, maybe just looks a little more professional?

Thank you, that makes sense. My riteks have a clear hub anyways and it wouldn't make sense to put clear on clear (how would you read it eh?) Thanks for the input. I think I will try the surething hub label maker and buy the matted labels. Thanks
