I have bought the Toshiba SD-R5002 but I have damn problems in burning DVD rips. I have used the Pioneer A04 before and had no problems with this device.
If I use the software VOB Instant CD/DVD 6.5 I can make standalone compatible DVDs but they will not work with PowerDVD or Media Player.
Also I can not burn Intenso (Ritek), Noname (TDK) and Princo discs because they were not detected. But the Prico DVD-RWs were detected.
With Nero all the discs were detected but I can't make compatibe DVDs, all of them were refused on PC and Standalone.
My settings are DVD-Rom (UDF/ISO), No Multisession, Isolevel 1/Iso 9660 (everything else disabled), UDF 1.02 (don't force DVD-Video compatibility mode), and 1x burning!

Anyone else with problems with this device? Or anybody who uses the same device and everything works? I would prefer to use Nero.

You should read the C'T test: This drive cannot write crap discs at all...

Use the "disc image" buton in infoedit to build a .img file and burn that.

Works for me every time with the SD-R5002

On which media?

The probs aren't the discs, with nero every media was writable and everithing can be read.
I want to know if it is possible to burn those rips (for example with SmartRipper or DVDDecrypter and then edited with IfoEdit) with Nero. With InstantCD/DVD it is possible, but only with some good discs, not the cheap ones...
What must I do to write them with Nero, even on the expesive discs I only get the message: "disc error". But data disc works.

had contact with the Toshiba support center. They said I should update to firmware version 1031. maybe this helps!

GGOE

Can you ost the offical link to firmware 1031 as I tried to find it the other day but came up empty.

In refrence to my post above I am using prodisc technologies generation 02 discs.

Now, with the new F/W every disc can be read and be written using VOB Instant CD/DVD, but I still have probs with Nero...

Don't have an official link to the firmware, got it by mail.
Just try to contact someone at the support-center from Toshiba, they are really fast.

What is "infoedit" that you are referring to here? I have seen a "disc image" checkbox in nero but have not tried it. Is infoedit a separate program? I was wondering because I use Nero and am having a few difficulties as well...
