I am attemping to encode some Anime (Japaneese animation for thouse who don't know) using DVD2SVCD. I am convierting the origional media into MPEG2 files, (i.e. I am using the muxed MPEG2 file as my end result, not the SVCD image it creates as they are easier to deal with in my suituation, and the quality is much better then divx)
I am having problems with the subtitles being unusable. When played off the origional DVD, there appears to be no problem and when playing the ripped DVD files, there is also no problem. When I use permanent subtitles, they appear grainy and distorted. Animes often have multiple lines of subtitles, often in diffrent colors (for character 1,character 2, and background noise, and sometimes also written items in the scene are overlayed with a subtitle). Most of the subtitles are missed and not displayed at all, shich makes the finished product unusable unless I suddenly learn Japaneese. Those that are displayed are displayed in an odd font with the edges pixilized/mangled that makes them hard to read, some are displayed as only outlines, some appear for only an instant and some (the ones overlaying test on the scene) are displayed in the wrong place, as compaired to the titles on the DVD. I am wondering if anyone else has seen this type of problem with DVD2SVCD permanent subtitles, and if there is a workaround.
I *would* perfer MPEG2 selectable subtitles as opposed to permanent, but I have not been able to find a software player that suppoerts them. Anyone know of one?
Thanks,
