I have tryed a lot of programs for BackUping DVDs to DivX, but none of them worked well.
I already have tryed Gordian knot (using the guide), but there are always problems with codec like this:
...
EXCEPTION: list index out of bounds (3)
EXCEPTION: Encoder Thread Terminated
...

or: (when I tryed to run compressibility check something like that)

+Compressibility Check: DivX4.
+Unknown Error: Compressibility Check Failed.

I really Don`t know what to do.

I am trying to rip older movies (Black Rain, Demolition Man, Rambo...)
I Would like to encode them to 2CD, beacouse the movies that kind are not so quality recorded as Star Wars II (and other new movies), and all continuing compression which would made picture even worse, makes the result of compression even worse.

So I would like to try to encode with XviD (the same codec uses Star Wars II - which you cam get it on the internet-2CD), but I don`t know where to start(which program to use...).

Can Anyone who has encoded movies with Xvid reply settings which were used in DVD ripping? (which program to use, and what to set for best encoding???

Thanks...

   :(

Do what I did the first time I encoded to XviD. Read the guid on doom9. It makes it as simple and explains what differences you might want to do with 1 or 2 disc rips.

Hi SupernovaOnLine
there are many programs to encode and, if used correctly, will produce very good quality xivd.
You can try Gordianknot ( a must), or ( and i use it all time) AutoDub www.dark-angel.does.it, or Vidomi.
Very good result can achivied throught virtualdub and avisynth, but this powerfull combo is, at last, for a minimun experienced user.

For older movies use a De-noise filter.
Try to read all varius guide on doom9 and post your question, polite.

Good Ripping

this is my xvid guide: http://doom9.org/xvid.htm

but your post started out with a lot of divx stuff which doesn't belong in this forum. And it looks like you're using an old DivX and GKnot version so I suggest that you upgrade.

hi SupernovaOnLine,

your post sounds like you might have some system-issues in the first place.
i'd suggest you make sure to get all the latest software that you want to involve (for example following dooms guide) and carefully install everything.
watch out for beta-versions if you have trouble. there are always stable alternatives that i'd recomend as a starting-point, anyway.
findig it all together might be quite a job, since for a lot of the tools involved, there are different threads and links, but once aou've got it together, you will surely achieve your desired results + more. :)

another very important thing is an intact operating-system. (3x repeat)
