When looking at a DVD resolution for NTSC, I know that the video is encoded at 720x480. When playing this DVD in a Soft player, it expands the resolution to 720x540 if it's 4:3 and it expands the res to 960x540 (852x480 if you're using WMP with certain video codecs).

However, I was wondering if someone could give me the Soft Player resolutions for PAL 4:3 and anamorphic widescreen resolutions. And is 720x576 the resolution it's viewed at, or is it unstretched like with NTSC video?

Your computer is using square pixels, therefore the pixel ratio is the same as the aspect ratio, regardless of NTSC or PAL. So 720x540 might be used for 4:3, but it would mean shrinking the PAL picture. More likely would be 768x576.
