very, very funny playback problem

my brother's just discovered a kind of funny problem on his computer:
wmp and wmp 6.4 are both playing videos upside down.
in bsplayer all videos are played fine.
has anybody had this problem before or does know the solution for it?

i know i could set a avs scipt up to rotate the videos again but it would be nicer to find a final solution

anyway... it was working totally fine until yesterday and afaik he didn't change any settings or install any new programs!

system specs:
dual PII 400
256 sd ram
winxp pro
elsa erazor (TNT 16MB)

It's called the flipped video problem and is well-known. I don't know what's the cause and i don't really care, but you should be able to flip the picture back (and sometimes the subtitles in vobsub) using 'properties' if you rightclick on the screen in wmp 6.4 or install the directshow filter (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Filters/ffdshow-20021213.exe) to have an incredible amount of options as well.
