Okay, I've had some of my movies on my PC for a while now, and I just recently upgraded to WinXP, and now some of them don't work! I've installed FFDshow, and that fixed some of them but not all. The ones that don't work, when I try to play them in WMP, it seems to think they're audio files and just shows the ambience while playing the audio. It also says that the movie is about 5 times longer than it really is! e.g. The Matrix, around 2 hours, when I try to play it, WMP just plays the audio and says it's 10 hours long! Any idea what solution/codec would remedy this?

Also, on a completely unrelated question, does anyone know where I could get a good application for splitting, joining, and resizing avi files?

What player do you use. Try using WMP 6.4 or BSPLAYER.

If that doesn't resolve the issue you might want to install some codecs from the Tsunamic codec pack. Or, for a more precise answer post the "File information" of the problematic video files from virtualdub.

WMP has problems with VBR mp3 files and their length. This is why the time is why off. Use WMP 6.4 or some other player as worldbook suggested. "Start/Run/mplayer2.exe"
Most likely you are missing a codec or three. Get Gspot2 from the download section and that will check the codecs needed for most films.
Goodluck.
