Hi. :)

Have read loads/searched etc and have narrowed options down to :

Using ImgTool.
Installing Nero 5.5.8.0
Making movie only.

Prassi/RecordNow Max reject disc/burn (discs are fine) with no explanation although I find it does do that with movies with menu (original). Plays fine in PowerDVD and IfoEdit DVD Player though.

Tried Gear Pro 6 and says my -R burner is not so but a +R burner, eh???

Nero goes on about Reallocation errors (tried editing VTS_C_ADT).

While I don't get this happen much it is very annoying and definitely want to keep original menu, so last option is out, unless no other option.

I have a Pioneer 105 and read that Nero 5.5.8.0 won't reconize my burner, is this the case before I even bother uninstalling/installing?

So the sensible option seems to make an image but I have had no luck making them (my fault I am sure).

Can anyone answer any of these questions and hopefully get me burning this stubborn film (Existenz) PAL? Or a few tips on making images and/or burning ISO/UDF way in Nero my version being 5.5.9.9? I read about ignoring the error and continuing but I cannot do this in my Nero, why not?

My DVD player = Pioneer DV 444.

Thanks in advance.:D

Max

Don't know if this helps but Pioneers are somewhat known to be iffy with discs burned with Nero (certainly has been on -R and +R in my experience). I think this is mentioned at vcdhelp.com in the compatability list.

I have a Pioneer DV350 and it would steadfastly refuse to recognise ANY discs I burned via Nero, no matter what different settings I tried, or if I burned to -R, -RW, +R, or +RW!(I now have a Phillips 228 but previously had access to a Pioneer A03).

I eventually settled on making my discs without menus but with chapter points in, and I always preserve both DD and DTS (where possible) and mux it all back together with Maestro.

BUT the most critical point for me has been to not use Nero. I use ImgTools to create an .ISO file from the remuxed VIDEO_TS / AUDIO_TS folders and then let Decrypter burn it. I have NEVER had a failure doing this (although I've found that the 228 is known to like +RW better than +R). If your media is rewriteable just erase it first with Nero and then burn with Decrypter or you'll get an error.

You should be able to preserve the main menu following the forum guides and still end up with a file structure that ImgTools can make an image from, but I think if your problem mirrors my own early experiences you should try using Decrypter to burn one test movie without menus. Personally I think burning this way is quick and easy. I tried RecordNow and Gear Pro and didn't like either as much.

The guide I followed for ImgTools was the one without menus, stage 7:

Sorry to waffle but just trying to help.

PS To all out there who are screaming that Nero rules with all things Pioneer, I'm just recounting my experiences, not stating fact.:D

Thanks for the info. :D

My own expreience (limited) has been OK so far just ran into trouble with Existenz.

I burned 2 movies I stripped etc, with Prassi fine, both movie only and 1 with a menu with Nero and all were OK. Nero just gives errors with this film though.

I got around to making an image. Which is better for making images, IMGTool (which version?) or Maestro?

So how should I burn it? I suppose I could use IMGTools 099.8 to burn, but would rather use something I am familiar with e.g Prassi.

Oh BTW, great name. Home again, home again, jiggity jig. Goooood evening J.F.

to burn a .img file with primo dvd.

file > new job > global image or other image

where it say's "disc image file" in the centre of your screen, click on the "..." button to the right.

under "files of type" select "other image".

navigate to your .img file and select it.

double click on your dvd writer to the left.

click on the record button.

Have you tried turning off check VIDEO_TS in Primo this could be your problem.
You should use images though I recommend imagetool 0.89 or DVD maestro pre master tool ( my choice ) and Primo DVD to burn.

to create an image file in imgtools:

you need to have your VIDEO_TS folder under the root drive, i.e. c:\, with NOTHING in the folder except your vob's, ifo's, and bup's. Maestro sticks in a .lay file, and if you don't get rid of it, your image file won't work.

click on create dvd image

dvd drive should be c:\

output image file is "movie".img (make sure you type in the img extension or your computer will save it only as a file)

volume title is YOUR_MOVIE

click create image. It'll take about 5 or 10 minutes or so.

Open up dvd decrypter.

Click mode\iso\write.

Unless I'm in a hurry, I select 1x to reduce my playback problems.

I burn my discs this way all the time and have had 100% success.

I hope this helps.

OK thanks everybody, finally solved it.:D

Ended up authouring and creating image with Maestro and burning with Prassi. Was going to try to turn off check VIDEO_TS option in Prassi but thought images were meant to be more compatible.

Did that and all was well. Thought I had just gotten the encoding etc done just not to be able to watch it! :)

Always burn at 1 X. No problems so far anyway...

Thanks again.
