VirtualDub can't open Xvid

I'm trying to edit something encoded with Xvid and when I attempt to open the video in VirtualDub (latest version), it gives me an error message saying it can only work with Video for Windows. Now, I'm perfectly willing to convert the video to DiVX, but what will actually allow me to do this?

1st, I think your nick is really offending and makes my decision to reply to you very hard. You should ask Doom9 if you can change it to something more appropiate (as your question shows that you know nothing i propose "iamloser2u").

2nd, your big blinking graphic is annoying.

3rd, just download and install a xvid binary. ffdshow is direct show, not vfw. After that you can access the video with vdub.

I would rather think my nick is humorous, I've not received complaints about it on any other forum nor IRC. Take it as such. Secondly, I thought the point of including pics in tags was to have a sign, but I'll remove it if it bothers people.

If the fourCC is wrong for the video... this will cause problem's.
Not sure if this is the case but maybe check it.
