ive demuxed the m2v from the backed up dvd on my hard disk, reencoded it (even tried using i frames from the template ifoedit makes). Ive tried to remux the m2v using ifoedit but my playback is always very choppy and the audio is out of sync every time. Is there any special settings i should use maybe something ive missed. This process is frustrating since theres no reason it should not work

first of all don't lose hope. it took me about 4 months to get a working film.
Now I use a method that works for me every time.
Load up DVD2AVI and select all your vob files and do a save project this will create a think a d2v file, load this into tmpgenc this will let it process all those vobs thinking its processing a single file. Boot up ifoedit and load the ifo for the vobs your interested in, hit the create template button and select I frames only after you have created the template file pre process it, just leave I frames in the template file only, you might see P and B entries in here just remove these so there is an I at the start of each line.
If you check you will see that ifoedit sometimes lies. Load this into tmpgenc it should take around 30secs to load. Processes your video and remux back with ifoedit.
Oh and check before you transcode that you have if using interlace the frame mode correct. Use tmpencs wizard for this. If you get the interlace wrong the movie will be jerky.

Ive followed your instructions, still no success even with the template, what i want to do is copy a dvd 9 onto a dvd-5 preserving everything on the disc by just bringing the size down by remuxing the m2v files. On the tmpg template it just displays the frame number & the frame type on any one line e.g. 0,i 1,p etc. You was talking about pre processing the template by removing p & b entries so there is an I at the start of each line, the template i made only had one frame on any given line.

its just a suggestion but I would try and learn to walk before you try running...
forget about the extras etc and just try and get something working first.
Its good that your template contains I frames only, this is not garenteed however and depends on the source in question. Have you read the doom9 guides?
Where are you having a problem? Is your source PAL or NTSC?
Whats your frame rate set to? What type of encoding are you using VBR, CBR, CQ?
Do you have your IPB group header setting correct?
Do you have your interlace settings correct i.e progressive or interlace. If interlaced do you have your field order settings correct? Are you just processing video only?
.
.
As you can see there are many variables. I suggest you try again and write down each step here, I know it will take a while but thats the only way I can help you. The devil is in the detail.
Make sure though you have read the doom9 guides on ifoedit and transcoding with tmpgenc however. These guides work very well at least for PAL source as long as you remove any PB frames from the ifoedit generated template.

With NTSC-film type movies, this process doesn't work...
Better use authoring option.

My source is PAL, im using 2 Pass VBR, my setting under the GOP structure in TMPGENC is I picture 1, P picture 4, B picture 2, output interval of sequence header 1 & max number of frames in GOP 15, my encode mode is interlace (same as the source type) im processing video only, i leave the field orders as they are by default upon loading the movie (but thanks i will try the opposite field order to see if that makes a difference). The IFOEDIT template, do you leave it to process fully or as derrow has suggested click cancel at 2% and select a GOP structure from the structures it gives you.
Thanks

I do as darrow has suggested. Click the template button select I frames only , let it process for a minute stop the processing. Click on a I frame structure that looks like an average stucture and let it churn away for 20 minutes.

BTW if you use the wizard on tmpgenc to sample the input video it tells you what field order to use.

Thankyou for your help and suggestions, i tried swaping my field order in tmpg (for some reason when loading a file it just says bottom field b first all the time) and have much smoother playback, it looks like its worked ok but i cannot select audio tracks its just plays track 1. Some dvd players wont even recognise the disc, i selected remux m2v and checked the box copy menu files, did that ok i then copied everything else (trailers, special features etc) into the same directory as the film. I have an ati radeon graphics card with the ati multimedia center dvd player i can play the disc but there is no audio menu, i also have an x card from sigma designs which wont even recognise it as a dvd, these are just 2 of the players i have tried like i said some players wont even recognise it. Any ideas to this problem ?
Thanks

did you copy the audio menu?
Did you strip out other audio tracks?
When you created the image did you do a Get_VTS sectors in ifoedit?
You should then create an image of the source material using imagetool 0.89, or DVD Maestro Premaster Tools ( I recommend ) and burn the image using Prassi DVD.
Media wise Ritek G03's / DVD Master are good.
Your ifoedit exploits are getting into the advanced zone I suggest RTFM

as far as i know i copied everything, didnt strip any streams & didnt create an image & neither vts sectors.
All i did was remux m2v with ifoedit, auto copy menus then copied & paste the rest (extras, trailers etc) then burn with nero express on to white label dvd-r (general use dvd-r).
When should i get vts sectors before or after i remux, i havnt got imagetool, maestro or prassi (will try to get them though).
What is RTFM ?
Thanks

@2COOL LOL :D
@yamyam
do a Get VTS sectors once your finished and before you write your DVD.
BTW Nero is pants for writing DVD's. See various threads in the forum for more details.

Hello again drafty, ive remuxed & done got vts sectors, the remuxed dvd plays perfect from my hard disk but i still have the same problem with some players not recognising it as a dvd (like you suggested the problem lies with nero). I hav`nt been able to get my hands on a copy of prassi yet, is there any other burning software you can suggest please!!.
One more thing i have preserved the menus but i had to strip 6 audio tracks & just leave the 6 ch ac3 track. The film i am trying to burn at the moment is lord of the rings special edition which has an audio menu at the start so you can select different audio tracks, what i want to do is disable the options for the missing audio tracks so you can only select one track. Ive tried ifo & vob edit but cant see how to do it, Do you know or can you provide any help on how i can do this ?.
Thanks

@yamyam,
Hi there, can't get hold of Prassi? Then try Recordnow max, its basically the same engine.
The new version of DVD decryptor and imgtools greater than version 0.89 can also write images now but I am not sure how good these are, imgtools uses Nero's API BTW...
Personally I'd get hold of RecordNow Max.
In terms of disabling buttons etc... I don't know, but there are vobedit guides around. Good luck, maybe you can let me know when you find out.

use imgtool to create image and burn with dvddecryptor.. works great!
you can test these images in clonecd's virtual clonedrive.

@yamyam
I have tried pretty much, all combinations. I have an XBOX and a SCAN SC2000 and a SONY DVP 735 dvd players. I have found that unless I use the image method and burn with Prassi then I get problems playing back content usually on the sony or XBOX ( if am using Nero ) . This does not happen for every DVD however, but using this method I never have issues.
At the end of the day its up to you burning using directory method I found Prassi with VIDEO_TS checking turned off to be pretty good around 90% of DVD's work. But if you usig image = 100% ;)

i am trying to remux lord of the rings to fit a single layer disc & it has worked so far on every dvd player i have tried. I remuxed the m2v auto copy menus the manually copy rest of the files.
It has 7 audio tracks & 4 subtitle tracks, i stripped 6 audio track just leaving the dolby digital 6 ch track & stripped 3 subtitle streams leaving only the english subtitles, made an image using imgtool 0.89 then burned using dvd decryptor but the problem i have is that subtitles are switched on by default as soon as the movie starts they can be turned on & off during the movie but i want to set them off by default, how can i do this ?
All i have to do now is figure out how to disable certain buttons in the start menu !!

I cannot get TMPG to remux with IFOEdit on an NTSC video :(
I followed the instructions here: http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/ifoedit-basic.htm but have had no luck SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME...
I have ripped the DVD and removed any unwanted audio/video/subtitle tracks.
Then I used the "Create Tmpeg T." button in IFOEdit v0.88 to get the list of i-frames.
Then I used DVD2AVI to get my .d2v and .ac3 files.
QUESTION:
The names of the .ac3 files have mention a delay, do I need to do anything to get rid of this delay to avoid a loss of audio/video sync after remux? Or do I just ignore this number.
Now I load the d2v file into TMPGEnc and set the settings according to the Doom9 guide. and transcode the video.
If someone has gotten this to work with an NTSC film, could they please let me know exactly what settings they used in TMPEGEnc, because I have tried just about everything and nothing has worked.
Once I have the newly transcoded ".m2v" file I have tried to remux it using both IFOEdit v0.88 and IFOEdit v 0.95 and both just freeze up when I start it going.
I usually use ReMPEG, but it seems like all of a sudden that is no longer working. Everything that I transcode with it (even at 90%) comes out very very pixelated.
Thanks for any help that some kind soul can give me.

Just a quick tip, I have not tried NTSC films only PAL however when using the create template button make sure your output file only contains I frame references only. If it contains P or B frame references this will screw up the sync.

Hmmm thanks for the tip Drafty, I'll have to check this...
I did check off the box that I just wanted i-frames, but I never verified that the file IFOEdit created only contained the i-frames.
So should I manually modify the file and remove any lines that contain letters other than "I" ?
Out of curiosity, which version of IFOEdit do you use for the remux v0.88 or v0.95?

I have only ever used 0.95 personally but as I said I only use PAL.
I have found using the create template button sometimes put P and B frames into the template file even though I only selected I frames.
I post filter these out using a quick N dirty VB program and then load this into tmpgenc. Some people however use early versions of ifoedit to create the templates. This is my solution however and it works for me. Everytime.

Hello, is there any way i can disable or bypass playback of VIDEO_TS.vob. I am trying to fit bend it like beckham (pal) on a single layer dvd-r, i have stripped the second audio track, deleted and bypaased playback of the second title set but the film is still 8mb to big in size and deleting VIDEO_TS.vob will bring it down in size enough to fit on a single layer, ive tried remuxing the m2v file (which was made with tmpg including template made) but it always comes out out of sync the audio is way in front of the video, i think this has something to do with the delay times because every vob file has a delay. Ive remuxed successfully in the past without problems.
Can anyone offer me advice as to what the problem might be ?
Thankyou
