I disabled Hinted ME.

Now i dont get this Error -100. By Manual 2.nd Pass.

I want to know.. what happen for my file, if this Hinted ME were disabled ??

I guess you use xvid? (a little more precise description of the circumstances of the crash is always appreciated!)
In the case of using xvid it is recommended to not use hinted me!

Perhaps you may be using an "Unstable" build of xvid which may be the cause of the virtualdub crash.

I get the same thing ...virtualdub crashing with xvid koepi's newest build.

In which case, you might want to revert to a "stable build".

I encountered a problem with Koepi's latest unstable build (03012003-1).
Basically it works fine with one pass CBR etc but fails on the second pass, giving me this infamous -100 error. It is not the stats file error (I've been encoding for a while now). I am using virtualdubmod (latest binary) and avisynth 2.5 (YV12). Hinted me is disabled as always.

I believe it has to be a bug (correct me if I'm wrong) - it has happened with all clips, not just one particular one. I uninstalled the build and installed the stable build. This worked 100% ok with the same script (2 pass), etc (I deleted the first pass stats file, also, of course). I then deleted the stats file again, uninstalled the stable build and installed umaniac's alpha build from last December which worked without problems (two passes) - build Alpha.20.12.2002.0620. I note that umaniac's latest alpha build which I downloaded today gives me the same problem. I'll keep using umaniac's build from December for the moment since I wish to keep experimenting with YV12.

i get this damn error -100, too. tested on 2 different machines with vd v1.4.11 and v1.4.13 and several xvid builds (nic's 021223, koepi's stable 021004 and unstable 030126, umaniacs stable 021127).

first pass runs without problems. after processing 1st pass' stats file with nitrogen's "xvid stats viewer" and starting 2nd pass (external) a message box immediately pops up and says there was an error "-100" (which means something like corrupted data). i also tried while not modifing 1st pass' stats file beforehand - same result. 2-pass (internal) works like a charm.

if anybody could give a hint ...

I got the same results with virtualdubmod with second pass sometimes crashing (not always though???). This has been reported in the virtualdubmod forum on their website http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/.

I guess if you want to know more then hop over there and have a quick look.

thanks for your reply ... i've searched both forums (at sourceforge and at virtualdubmod.everwicked.com) but couldn't find the appropriate thread. could you please point me to the particular thread ?

bingo. i got 2nd pass (external) working.

not working settings (tab: "Two Pass")

before 1st pass:
"1st pass stats" = "c:\video-1stpass.stats"
"2nd pass stats" = ""
before 2nd pass:
"1st pass stats" = "c:\video-1stpass.stats"
"2nd pass stats" = ""

working settings (tab: "Two Pass")

before 1st pass:
"1st pass stats" = "c:\video-1stpass.stats"
"2nd pass stats" = ""
before 2nd pass:
"1st pass stats" = ""
"2nd pass stats" = "c:\video-1stpass.stats"

are the working settings correct ? do i have to enter the file name of 1st pass stats into "2nd pass stats" ? the lables are somehow missleading ... at least in my opinion.

I am not so sure what are you doing...You have to save the processed stats under anotther name, and then specify in 2nd passin the 2nd pass stats:xxxx.stats.
Also you have to disable alt curve system...
example:

1st pass:
1st pass stats:test.stats
2nd pass stats:blank
modifying the 1st pass stats, saving them under another name:modified.stats.Disabling the alt. curve system

2nd pass:
1st pass stats:test.stats
2nd pass stats:modified.stats

The thread is as http://virtualdub.everwicked.com/index.php?act=ST&f=12&t=1589

I haven't checked it for a couple of days so I'm not sure if they have a fix for the basic problem yet.
