Hello everyone.

Did anybody experienced failures with a05 burners and g04 blanks? One guy told me he burned all 25-pack of them without a single failure at 4x but he sells those riteks so i don't trust him :-)

Are they reliable? Can i finally have myself a 100-pack and be sure that half of them wont be coasters?

(Yea i want cheap and working media for my 05 too)

:/ Sorry, missed that one somehow. Anyway, there are lots of these disks sold at ebay so we should hear feedback in a day or two.

Too bad those guys won't ship them to my place.

I've got some, just don't have a pioneer a05 to test them with :(

They're damn good looking discs though, and I doubt they will have any problems writing at 4x.

Unfortunetly my Toshiba SD-R5002 hates them, and I'm paranoid about poping them in my A04 until i update the firmware.

ive got a toshiba sd-r5002, and it hates those ritek 4X discs i bought on ebay. i can't even get the discs recognized by windows, or any programs. windows just says: "E:\ not accessible incorrect function" Is there some sort of firmware update I can get?

Well I guess I'm the first to report in the Riteks. Here are my findings

The media (per ADVDinfo):

00 6A 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 35 0E 0B .J...@....R..5..
FE FF 80 00 03 52 49 54 45 4B 47 00 04 30 34 00 .....RITEKG..04.

The hardware:

1.4G AMD running Windows 98SE (I know, I know...)
256MBytes RAM
Sony DRU-500AX (DMA Mode with latest ASPI layer from Adaptec)

The software:

DVD Descrypter
DVD2One
Nero 5.5.10.7 (Burned single-session UDF/ISO format at 4x)

DVD's backed up:

The Matrix
Lord of The Rings
XXX
The Sum Of All Fears

Results:

1. All 100% successful burns at 4x, ave time was 15:20.
2. Works in 2 PC DVD-ROM drives
3. Works in a Panasonic DVD-110A, Panasonic RP-62, and Zenith(?) DVD.

So, I am very happy with the Riteks. I bought 25 for $44.95.

Hope this helps.

I also burned a few of them without problems at 4x with the Pio 105. On one even Burn-Proof kicked in, and it was fine afterwards!

I have a Pioneer 4X burner.. model DVR-105 with original firmware. I burn these Ritek 4X I got from www.rima.com and they are the best!! I've burned movies not full and then I've burned movies that look like DVD2ONE made a mistake, but it burns cleanly to the outter edges with no problems.

Is this what you are looking for? I'm ordering my next batch in 100 as they are a little cheaper.

Anyone have any idea what "authoring" DVD s are all about? They seem to be priced a bit higher.

Authoring media is made for special DVD drives which contain information for replications purposes. They are not compatible with general DVD drives and general media is not compatible with authoring drives. I beleive the 2 use slightly different lasers for recording. Basicly instead of sending your dvd image to tape you'd burn it to an authoring disc and send it to the replicators.

I got mine here:

http://www.esbuy.com/es4xhigspeed.html

I was wrong; they're $44.25 with free shipping for 25. ;) ($1.77ea)

50 spindle is $85.50 ($1.71ea)
100 spindle is $170 ($1.70ea)

I got mine in 2 days - very good feedback from esbuy (UPS tracking number sent, etc).

I burned 7 more yesterday, and still no coasters

I bought a 25-pack from www.hypermicro.com last week, and have burned about 15 in the past few days. Perfect results at 4X, even though my VIDEO_TS folder is 4.34GB (very close to the absolute limit of 4.37GB).

hey, dalilama, I got the same discs you got

but they don't work with my toshiba sd-r5002. I got 4 25 packs(100). one of the packs is opened, but the other 3 are not. I have no use for them. Do you know of any software updates that will make them work, or is it just my player? If I can't make 'em work maybe you'd like to buy them from me. I'll give 'em to you cheap :)

i bought mine there, too, but a while ago: awesome!!!
i burned about 20 of them -- no coasters, and at 4x it's such a breeeeeze! i hope there'll be no ritekg04 fakes! unfortunately, they've gone up in price quite a bit...

@davepyne:

which firmware version are you using? This thread http://forum.firmware-flash.com/viewtopic.php?t=13730 over at rpc1.org suggests that Ritek G04 are in the media tables of both the 1031 and 1032 firmware. The burner should at least know about them, then ...

im using firmware 1030, so i guess that's why. I don't really know how to flash new firmware, so i haven't done it. i dont want to ruin my drive.

Been using RITEKG04 for a while now. The first 50 pack I bought, from Hypermicro, burned completely fine. I later bought a 100 pack from Rima and it seems to have a 10% failure rate. Note that failure means "failure to read in my ordinary DVD-ROM drive, but reads ok in my DVD-R drive". The Hypermicro discs may have the same problem and I didn't notice it. I'm about to buy another pack, anyway.

Moral: if you can accept the need for post-burn testing and a possible 10% "failure" rate, then they're alright discs.

P.S. I am using a DVR-A05.

It's clearly the best media I know.
Burning 1X, 2X or 4X on A05 or Sony, results are perfect on all the SA I tested (About 10 now, full play of several movies).
Same on PS2, V3 V4 V7, result is perfect on movie and games.

This is the only media I tested who is sucessfully read in every player.

2nd one is Bulkpaq X2, but burned @X1. (I mean second on bulk medias)
Anyway, some read error on my favorite Sa, Sony DVP 715, a real b*tch with DVD-R !
Did not yet test the bulkpaq X4, but will do it soon.

hey klona!

finally someone else who has a sony dvp 715 (dvp-ns715p). i was wondering if you also experience problems with modified IFO's, eg. if you try to bypass fbi-warnings (especially on walt disney movies), and on some occasion, the dvd-r wouldn't play and just stop? "powerdvd" on the other hand, never had any problems with those dvd-rs...

and yes, i agree that those ritekg04 are GREAT! i had several of them surface-scanned by "kprobe" and i would say that the graphs look pretty "good" (good in quotation marks since i can't find an explanation regarding the interpretation of those values that would enable me to grade the discs).

Yes, strangely some First play command causes troubles on sony 715...
Jump to title si ok, but some other command like Calls (CallSS_VMGM etc) sometimes just causes the frustating error of C13:00...

And you put the dvd in a ps2 or another player and it play fines..

The advantage of the sony715, it tells you a lot about quality of the media, without kprobe or DVDSpeed ! You know fast (about half the movie if the media is cheap quality  :)

Do the RitekG04 burn as 2X or 1X?

ravenone_2000
14th October 2003, 02:10
Yes, you can burn them at 2x and 1x, but normally that's waste since they are 4x media. Just buy 2x or 1x media if don't or can't use the 4x.
