i'm now using the scene detection patch, but now my files undersize to anything from 100 to 200 MB.
is there a good calculator/rule to calculate the bitrate for this codec? i used Divxcalculator (has support for this codec) but my file was 100 megs too big

Hi and welcome to the forums-

Dump the scene detection patch. You don't need it. Use Gordian Knot (available in the downloads section) as just a bit rate calc, or as a front end for the whole encoding process. There are guides to help you out.

thx :)
i use gordian knot to scale & crop my movie, but i do the encoding with virtualdub since it does one-pass-no-fuss encoding.
i see gordian knot allways uses 2-pass encoding, but does it allso add keyframes when a scene changes?

Hi-

GKnot uses Nandub for the DivX3.11 encoding, and not VDub. And yes, Nandub sets keyframes at scene changes. I wouldn't recommend it, but it's possible to do a one pass encoding through Nandub (but not GKnot), and to get the scene detection. The way to get best quality for a given file size is to do 2-pass encoding.

thx, i've stopped using this method & gone over to Gknot witch makes life a lot easier + gives better quality as well...
