I was just wondering what success people have had with a combination of any or (hopefully) all of these tools in burning a dvd and watching it. I especially want to know if regular Ritek 2X dvd-r discs purchased in bulk from cdrdvdrmedia.com can be played on a Playstation 2. Also, I would like to know how well these discs burn on a SD-R5002. Any input is appreciated.

In addition, has anyone tried playing these same discs on an xbox?

The SD-R5002 burns xbox games and movies fine. I haven't tried it with ps2 games yet.

Note. I'm not using riteks, but discs of a similar quality and I have no problems.

have you tried playing movies burned with that burner on an xbox of ps2? That's actually what I was referring to, not games.

Yes movies play fine on xbox when burned with the above mentioned writer. Haven't tried them on a ps2 yet.

Well, I tried burning a movie on to one of the above mentioned Ritek discs, and playing it on a ps2 and a set-top magnavox, and had no luck with either. I followed the "full copy 9 to 5" guide to a t, and burned using Nero. However, I did not do the "video mode" of Nero, and was wondering if that could make a difference. I just did data mode dvd and drag and dropped the video ts folder over. Also, something else I noticed is that there are general purpose Riteks (which I have) and there are also ones for authoring. Do you have to use the ones for authoring in order to play them on set-top boxes? I didn't think this was the case, but could be mistaken I suppose. If this is the case, if someone could suggest a good dvd-r for me to use to play on a ps2 I would appreciate it. Any other input on what I may have done wrong or why this isn't working would also be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Also, Nero prompts me on whether I want to continue with multisession or not. Should I make it multisession or not. Also, are there any other Nero settings I should tinker with?

DVD-R Authoring discs are suitable for the following DVD writers only:

Pioneer DVR-S201
Pioneer DVR-S101

DVD-R general discs will play fine in most standalone players and consoles.

In regards to your incompatibility problem, use the 'disc image' button in info edit to create a .img file based on your video_ts folder. Then burn the .img file with either dvd decrypter or primo dvd.

Since you are new to this I highly recomend you do a DVD-5 to DVD-R copy with DVD decrypter to make sure you PS2 can play the type of media you are using. Additionally test with a DVD-RW until you are happy with your ripping/authoring methods.

What exactly is "info edit"? Are you talking about creating an image in Nero and then burning that image on to a disc using DVD Decrypter?

Hmm if you did a DVD-9 to DVD-5 rip and didn't use the program "ifoedit" then it is quite likely it didn't work.

For backing up a dvd-9 to dvd-5(dvd-r), your operation should be something like this.

1) Rip the DVD-9 to your HDD (DVD decrypter)

2) If video and audio footage is over 4.35GB re-encode

3) Recomplie (Either with Ifoedit or with a DVD authoring program)

4) Get VTS Sectors (Ifoedit)

5) Build image (press the "disc image" button in Ifoedit)

6) Write the .img file (primo dvd, dvd decrypter, and nero can all do this).

If you just do steps 1 and 6 it is very likely you will get zero standalone player compatibility.

Now that you mention it, I did get some kind of sector boundary error when I used the IFOupdate utility. I'm thinking that probably has something to do with it, right? I went by the "full 9 to 5 copy" guide. It involves ripping with SmartRipper, then extracting subtitles, then using Cinema Craft Encoder, then doing a pulldown, then authoring in dvd maestro, and finally updating using IFOupdate, where I encountered that error. Maybe if I used a different technique I wouldn't get that error, or if I retried the same way.
