i have been coming here for about 2 years and have been able to do basically anything i want without using avisynth (mainly because it confuses the hell out of me... not the basics but i need to use it to deinterlace) there are SO many choices and no one seems to know what is the best to use... and needless to say my head is starting to spin trying to understand so many people points of view...

to get to the point, i am trying to transcode star trek the next generation seasons so a double layer disc will fit on a simple layer... thought it would be easy but.. it is ntsc interlaced acording to dvd2avi and i have no clue which deinterlacers i should use... bob, telince, selectevery, seperatefields, weave.... i was just hoping someone could tell me which would be best to use until i am able to struggle through this mess myself.

thx in advance

Haven't been here long enough to read the forum rules? Your title is unacceptable, and asking for the "best" anything is proscribed.

I'm moving this to the Newbie forum.

There is only one answer to this "Learning by doing" or "Trial and Error" and best thing to beginn with is the search button above ;)

Just because dvd2avi reports "interlaced" does not necessarily mean the video is actually interlaced. It might be telecined, if the show was originally shot on film.

I recommend reviewing www.doom9.org/ivtc-tut.htm as Hakko, Manono, and some other guy give good advice on how to examine your content frame by frame, and what to look for, and even, what AviSynth tools to use.

You don't state whether your content is NTSC or PAL. If the latter, you'll find some good suggestions from Hakko near the end of the document.

In addition, at the bottom of the document are a boatload of links for more information.

TNG and dvds of other hybrid tv shows have been discussed a few times already in this forum, mostly pertaining to different methods hybrid sources can be dealt with. I would recommend you search again and then praise neuron2 for the work he's been doing with mode=3 decimate.
