Alright, ready to pull the rest of my hair out here. I am running w2k, asus a7m266-d dual athlon board with a sony 16x dvd drive. I can't get my ripping speed up at all. I have tried force aspi with 4.60 adaptec also the newest adaptec of 4.7.2 and I still only start out at 2.7x and average around 4.4x. I have used aspicheck to make sure everything was installed correctly and it was. I have also noticed that when I change the I/O settings in dvd decrypter from aspi to spti there is no difference in ripping speed, (shouldn't there be a big differnce when I use the aspi layer?). I do have the drive set up in udma mode both in my bios and in windows. I have also tried changing my AMD ide drivers from 1.43 to v. 1.41 with no luck. I have also tried hooking the dvd to a pci ide card, but still no change. I don't know if it is the chipset or what but I used to rip at 7-9x with my old single cpu board, (with same O/S). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Normally all speed issues are down to misconfiguration of your machine/OS but on this occasion, DMA does seem to be on ok or you'd never get 4.4x. The most I see from a non DMA enabled machine is about 2x.
I dont know how to fix your problem, but it is worth mentioning that all I/O interfaces should perform the same. If anything, SPTI should be faster as it is the OS's one and not a bolt on thing.

Out of interest, what it the buffer level sitting at whilst you rip?
0% = Good, More than that = Bad!
