Hi all,

Apologies if this is answered elsewhere (I have looked through the forum, but not quite the correct answers I was after)..

A friend has converted a video to this Xvid format, but when I play it on my machine, the sound is out by about 1 second all of the way through. He doesn't think it is like this on his machine. Is my audio codec not running in time or something or has it been encoded incorrectly?

Also, if I want to convert this back to a DVD/VCD, is this possible? My DVD/VCD conversion software doesn't seem to like it one bit. I have tried various bits of software but to no avail (including TMPEG, and Ulead)

Any suggestions greatley appreciated!

Cheers,

Paul.

Do you have a slow machine?
What OS are you using?
How are you decoding the film (ffdshow, xvid decoder) ?
Have you tried disabling post-processing in decoders ?

Post-processing can slow down the image, breaking synch with audio.
Have you noticed any frame dropping in playback?

Hi,

I have a AMD Duron 1.2gig with 384meg ram, 16meg ATI gfx running XP Pro.

I am using the XVid decoder, I found that ffdshow turned everything green and blocky. I am not sure where the post-processing option is that you mention. Could you advise?

No frame dropping, and I have tried reducing the size of the video to a really small window to see if that picked up speed, but unfortunately not.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Cheers!

Paul.

Post-processing is available on Nic's XVID Decoder as Luma/Chroma Deblocking and Deringing. Disable everything and see if it still happens.

Also try with ffdshow with / without "use XVID" and with no options selected.

You could also try on another machine to see if it happens everywhere, your friend might have not noticed the delay before.
