When i author a new dvd in ifoedit (m2v + ac3 audio track) all goes well when the ac3 track doesn't have any delay. But when it does have any delay like for instance 96ms and i unput this in the audio delay in ifoedit.. the sound is still a bit off. It seems like it is 0.5ms off. (you notice when playing that some people's mouth begins to move just a little earlier then the voice you hear)
It is very irritating, what can i do about this?

I think there is a bug in that aspect of IFO's authoring function or DVD2AVI isn't accurate in it's representation of the amount of delay when it demuxes the stream.
I've had to play around with different delays for a couple of movies, Windtalkers, Someything About Mary & Last of the Mohicans. Last of the Mohicans & Something about Mary were 63ms off in addition to what DVD2AVI reported. Windtalkers was 135ms off from what DVD2AVI said.
I usually author only 1 VOB and check synch before running the whole thing.

0.5ms? No one can perceive that short a time offset. A video frame is longer than that (33ms or 40ms). It would need to be on the order of 60ms to be barely perceptable.

I was a videotape editor for several years and mpucoder is right, most folks can't detect one frame out of synch while most will pick up on two frames or more.
See my earlier response about discrepancies I found in some films.

you could use a proggy to remove the delay from the ac-3 file...
i think a proggy called AC3delay does that... (not sure about the name though)

It's called AC3 Delay Corrector and it should be available at:
